That's how it goes with these games, I guess.

I thought Thimbleweed Park got off to a shaky start in a lot of regards--voice acting, puzzle simplicity, etc. But it quickly enough expands in scope to a near-classic new LucasArts adventure game. Overall it wasn't nearly as obtuse as some of the older games, while still following the same lateral-thinking logic. I needed a nudge once or twice, including a pixel-hunt item I just happened to miss. And only one puzzle REALLY had me questioning the internal logic. But arguably, a classic game always has ONE of those infamous headscratchers. I wasn't a big fan of all the lampshading early on either, though I minded less as the game progressed.

The one major criticism I have with the design is the act structure--you'll get the beginnings of puzzles that can't actually be solved in the act you're in, but there isn't a great way to tell when this is the case. That led to a lot of aimless and futile meandering. (Tip: Focus on the puzzle/area in the act title. If a puzzle doesn't seem to have anything to do with that, it might not yet be solvable.)

Not quite sure if it's a new classic yet, but highly recommended if you enjoyed Gilbert's old games. Stick with it through the first act, it gets a lot better and more complex.

Re: Fandom Is Broken | Birth.Movies.Death.

Someone needs to program a Misery / New Ghostbusters double feature.

Re: Zack Snyder Explains The Shocking Thing He Did To A Beloved DC Character

There are so many densely packed bad ideas in this article. So there's probably some attention coming the franchise's way but I don't know if it will translate to any mainstream desire for a film, nor do I think it ever really did.

Re: Sundance Entry A WALK IN THE WOODS Sounds And Looks Amazing

Weird! I don't know how this plays on the 360 or PS3, but for those of you playing it on the Wii--the game is forced into 480i, which means it has to be upscaled on an HDTV, which introduced subtle but game-killing lag on my set. As soon as I connected it to my bedroom SDTV, I got approximately fifty times better at it. Seriously, it made all the difference.

It's still brutally difficult at times, but man I am loving it now.
