If you are shooting and editing log it is preferable, no matter how it ends up finally, to have 10-bit. Especially given the wide real DR modern cameras are now achieving. Windows is a good operating system

This isn't really true at all. Apple are in fact known for supporting legacy hardware for far longer than most other companies. The idea that they quickly obsolete hardware is really just a false myth.

My old Mac Pro from 2006 only lost support a few versions ago (and I can still use it perfectly well). New versions of Windows on the other hand often come with strict minimum hardware requirements to run it well. What year is Suzy's iMac? I can tell you without you telling me that it's a pretty old one. The latest macOS supports iMac's going back to 2012, and Mac Pro's going back to 2010 depending on the graphics card.

Sure, Windows 10 has minimum hardware requirements that look good on paper, but you won't get a usable experience on such a setup. And in fact that's the real reason why hardware loses support from macOS. Apple want you to be able to run the OS with a consistent experience across devices, so the hardware needs to be capable of running it.

It's easy to forget that a few years ago Apple went through a massive redevelopment of the OS system to cut out bloat and make it run much more efficiently even on older machines. This has never happened with Windows.

But both systems do have their advantages and disadvantages. Use what works for you. You'll find annoyances with both. Just different ones.

Re: RedShark News - Here's the first in-depth review of Blackmagic's Pocket Cinema Camera 6K

After deBayer you will always end up with less than 4K of true resolution on the 4K camera. Or you need to do pickups for a shoot that was in a far off location months ago? Or maybe you actually need control over the lighting rather than having to wait until the 'outside' is cooperating with what you actually need. Hard to do pickup shots for the middle of summer if its snowing or raining!

Re: RedShark News - Six 4K cameras for under $4K [sponsored]

BMD's own specs state the following;
"2/3 inch sensor size when using 4K B4 mount (Actual sensor size 13.056mm x 7.344mm)"

So yes, the sensor is I guess 1", although the article isn't incorrect in the context of how BMD itself presents the specification. So even if BMD wanted E Mount, they couldn't use it. That's just life.

But the fact that Canon are now producing RF lenses doesn't not mean EF stops working. There are so many EF cameras out there that there's no realistic notion of EF Mount glass production being stopped any time soon. And why focus on RF? Why not join the L Mount alliance? That would be much more realistic to expect.

Re: RedShark News - DaVinci Resolve continues its road to domination with version 16.1 beta

But as a snapshot of the industry as a whole (the broadcast sector is only one subset, and a relatively small one at that) it's Premiere that is the software of choice for people at the moment. But far from being a "Noob" app, I think it's easy to forget Resolve's roots, which was anything but amateur! And it has been used for films like Deadpool and Jurassic World. Is it dominating? No. But it has been and is being used for some very big productions, and its user base is growing all the time. Avid might well cling on in the broadcast sector, but broadcast is not a bellweather any more. Especially not now that Netflix is on the scene.

Re: RedShark News - DaVinci Resolve continues its road to domination with version 16.1 beta

Hence the phrase "Road to..."

Re: RedShark News - Blackmagic's new BMPCC 6K is here!

This anamorphic mode is apparently also coming to the BMPCC4K in a firmware update.

Re: RedShark News - Blackmagic's new BMPCC 6K is here!

This feature is also on the BMPCC 4K, so it isn't new, as pointed out below using the Tentacle.

Re: RedShark News - HitFilm 13 is available now with a very enticing feature set

It's an NLE at heart, but does a lot of SFX. BBC's Top Gear did more than any other professionally made production to promote overuse of vignettes. Teal and Orange? What about Michael Bay? Everything runs in cycles. Remember when everyone was doing a bleach bypass look, regardless of whether it suited the subject after Saving Private Ryan? Films were using it all the time, from Brian Helgeland's Payback to John Frankenheimer's Ronin, David Fincher's Seven etc. Now we rarely see it anywhere, and the amateurs and newbies don't chase it now either.

Whatever effect is in vogue now will gradually fall out of favour as new ones take over.

But with regard to anamorphics and fake 'CinemaScope', there is actually research that shows that placing borders at the top and bottom of the screen fools people into thinking they are seeing a higher quality image than they really are.

But there's a wider point here (pardon the pun). Just because some people overuse an effect, why should that prevent people who do use the tools well from using or having them available to them? That's why I find objections such as this so fruitless.
