I agree that any discrimination is terrible and I agree that sometimes people don't get promoted because they are Asian, but when have white people have been denied promotions for being white? That is the only logical analogy - Chen's eye shape was a secondary consideration, like a poor attempt to soften the blow.

And her boss - who was probably the show's producer, or higher - made no suggestion that Chen could be promoted by having surgery. It was her ethnicity that was the problem for her boss, her eye shape was incidental.

So she made a choice to have surgery - as happyappa and others have pointed out on this thread without blaming white people. So, no, this thread is not about white victimhood despite your attempts to turn it into another whine about poor hard-done-by white people.

Happyappa wasn't even blaming white people for anything with that comment. You guys are playing the white victimhood card and seeing what you want to see in people's comments because it reinforces your white victim identity.

Unless you speak a different form of English than the educated standard, the sentence "they were her (Chen's) choices" means that Chen was responsible for her choices, as opposed to "blame white people", which means something completely different, see the difference?

And did you even read the article that you feel is victimizing you? Being hired wasn't the question for Chen because she already worked for the station - is that simply more language incomprehension on your part?

She was denied a promotion because of her race.

Well, so far you have offered no meaningful reasons for why you believe that economic policies cause income inequalities across racial lines, and have shown that you are ignorant of the fact that such inequalities are present regardless of economic trends, and that it is consistently minorities that experience inequalities of income comparative to whites.

But empowered by magical thinking and paranoia, you have inexplicably concluded that economics and immigration can be blamed for these inequalities, and that the article is trying to manipulate you. Yes, you don't know what rational is.

Immigration and economic policies have no bearing on income inequalities along racial lines.

You also know that income inequalities across racial lines have existed regardless of economic policies, before there were job losses to overseas competitors, at times when the US was the most powerful manufacturing nation, and before we started to run a deficit.

So, if you are able to be honest, you would have to admit that factors beyond economic trends cause income inequalities across racial lines. What those are may require significantly more investigation.

So you have reason to believe that in the years before America's manufacturing was lost to some mythical foreign monster (although, American manufacturing is actually very productive, even now), that there was income equality between ethnic groups?

The article suggests that income inequality has been a problem for some Asian-American groups for generations - that means that they have experienced this problem regardless of government economic policy. Thus, economic trends (including the impact of immigration) are unlikely to have a bearing on the issue, and so there must be other factors involved.

And yes you are really wound up about the article, otherwise you wouldn't be stupidly scrambling to discredit a very neutral report by claiming some kind pscyho-emotional manipulation on its part.

Some of those points are actually pretty good (you surprise me), but have nothing to do with the point of the article - inequalities in income that hint at causation factors not necessarily explained by economic trends.

This suggests that even if the (sometimes backward) measures that you are frothing at the mouth for became policy, these inequalities might still exist along racial lines. I don't see why that simple point would be threatening to anyone.
