Up until now I didn't think the elderly would or could benefit from a role model. This man should be a role model for all retirees. Old age is not an excuse for reckless decision making. Mr. Pendergast should be speaking at senior centers and encouraging others to make the same decision he has.

That being said, winter must be challenging for him.

You're absolutely right. Every so often there is an article about some of the good people in Lawrence. The problem is that they're so few and far between that we have little choice but to harp on the bad. Most of us don't live in Lawrence and therefore don't know what good is happening or coming out of that city.
All we see is what we read. It's hard to blame us, really. We read the newspaper to see what is happening and with 95% of the articles about Lawrence talk about how horrible it is there can you really blame us for the way we feel???
