I'm think it's likely that Leadwerks 3 will have advanced graphics eventually. However, It's unclear whether pledgers are receiving an unmodified port with Leadwerks 3's current features, or if they are being promised a port AND planned improvements to the renderer.

I experimented with Lua interface in the demo, and I liked what I saw. It is not obviously capable of high-end graphics yet, though.

I hope this isn't a disappointment for its developers and pledgers.

Re: Humble Indie Bundle Shows GNU/Linux Gaming Statistics | Linux Game News • Humble Indie Bundle Shows GNU/Linux Gaming Statistics

I would be interested to know where Id said they plan to port Id Tech 5 to Linux. While that would be wonderful news, the last I remember hearing was that John Carmack had serious reservations about Linux.

Also, I think Humble would have different numbers if platform-specific averages weren't released. When there's something to prove, passionate Linux users will put in the extra effort, but I suspect cross-platform devs who haven't been in a Humble Bundle might have a different story. An ideal comparison, I think, would be if Steam decided to share some financial data.

Re: Jedi Knight source-code liberated & Flare 0.18

I'm not sure, but I believe that player models and animations for Jedi Outcast/Academy had to be made in 3DS Max due to a custom exporter. I suppose there's a possibility that the model exporter was open-sourced as well (I haven't looked at the downloads yet), but it seems unlikely to me that much new content will appear for these games.

Ports would be enough for me, though! : D

Re: Raring Retires System Tray Whitelist

I agree that consistency is a great thing, but I believe it should be up to developers to conform to standards (or not) according to the needs of their application. Breaking compatibility with software to force maintainers to conform seems unnecessarily heavy-handed. In abstract, it could also lead to platform constraints that prevent 3rd-party projects from coming up with better solutions to problems than the OS designers themselves.

I was not using Windows at the time Vista came out, but from what I understand much of its criticism came from (albeit necessary) new standards that broke compatibility with old software. It would be a pity to see Ubuntu go down the same path.

Re: Ubuntu One Announce Tomboy Note Sync to Stop Working Late February

I've taken to using Dropbox (my personal preference, but U1 would work exactly the same) to sync ANY program by dropping its configuration folder in a special directory (Something like ~/Dropbox/config) and symlinking back to the original location. This was from me. I hit posted accidentally, tried to delete the reply, and now I'm a guest.

Anyway, I'm more worried about the removal of the button as a sign of an absolute transition away from workspaces. I was also concerned when they removed Synaptic from the default install, but was surprisingly not-bothered by it as soon as I reinstalled it manually. If they make workspaces optional, I guess that's fine. If they decide to remove them for good in a year, though, I'll be very disappointed. This is hardly far-fetched, as it happened with the (fast but less pretty) gnome 2 of old.

There's always XFCE, I suppose.

Re: Ubuntu One Music Store Plugin Dropped from Ubuntu 13.04

Workspace button gone (by default), music store plugin gone... Having more developers experienced in porting is already good news, but I've thought for some time that Linux could really use a comprehensive website dedicated to educating developers on building cross-platform friendly code and introducing them to the Linux platform. I think that Humble Bundle Inc would be an ideal match to organize such an effort. Is there any possibility that we'll see something like this happen someday?

Best of luck on the new job, Edward!

Re: CryEngine 3 Coming to Linux? ~ Ubuntu Vibes | Daily Ubuntu Linux Updates

http://www.phoronix.com/sca...

No information about the source of external links to further information, but I gather that's just how Phoronix reports.

Re: Art Asset Overview #37 - Wolfire Games Blog

Oh good, pointy sticks...
