They need to engage this, because in order to fight non violent battles for LIFE you need to also consider the big deals in this world as well. Nuclear weapons are a big deal and hostile nations trying to aquire them are a big deal.

Re: CatholicVote.com

Well that is a nice prayer for the bishops. How can you say he isnt trying to be transparent?
He just posted his 2010 federal budget on CNN. Seriously, go and read it. Its' long, but I feel he's more transparent than any recent President has been. I just don't understand why you say that he is not?

Re: CatholicVote.com

Tibet.

Re: CatholicVote.com

MA,
Wait explain this to me, as I am rather dumb in the science area's of all of this :) So the President limited stem cell research to only using embroys that have already been created through IVF? So no new embroys, but only one's already created?

Re: CatholicVote.com

Thank you I will look into this.

Re: CatholicVote.com

JPR,
Again, I took that into consideration when I voted. I factored in that he doesnt legislate laws, so I went and voted a Pro Life Republican Congressman in, a vote that I never would have made in my lifetime before, but I figured they are the one's that legislate.

Since President's dont legislate, I figured I could do my part in that way.

Re: CatholicVote.com

AMN,
Hi. Ok, I am interested that you are a self described Conservative Democrat.
I have to ask, why do you remain a democrat? Or better yet, what about the democratic party is attractive to you? I mean correct me if I am wrong, but Hillary is not pro life either correct?
She certainly isnt like Obama, but still not 100% pro life either.
So I really am so curious on why you are a democrat? I hope you don't mind me asking.

I understand your concerns with the huge defeciet. I think there isnt a person who is not worried about that. This has been unprecidented times for our country. We are trying to solve a global depression and to be honest, if Obama wouldnt have pumped money into some of the places he did, then my husband would likely be out of work right now.
People just don't know what to make of it, and you don't know what would have happened if we had other leadership in the White House. We could all be out of work right now.
We could all be living in tent cities.

One more question. Why did you sit out the last election? What about McCain/Palin did you not like that lead you to stay away from the voting box?

Re: CatholicVote.com

Amen,
I see. I really like that you describe yourself as a Conservative Democrat. Wait I'm posting up top... No room here.

Re: CatholicVote.com

Hi Amen,
If it were not a political event, then I would agree with you. If a person really feels it and wants to pray with others I have no problems with that at all.
At the same time, I won't criticize a person for not wanting to make prayer a political event.
** Many feel in this country that he (the President) is there to do a job and serve the people of this country. Not just bow down to a certain majority of religious folk for religious posturing.

I am not sure what is inside the President's heart. Maybe he isnt all that religous these days. Maybe he does believe , but he himself is 'luke warm' so to speak. If so, then we can only offer prayers. If he falls short inside his heart, then he is simply a human sinner that is part of our fallen human nature.

All I know is that he isnt making the religious right in this country very happy. I can see the reasons when it comes to Abortion. I don't agree with him on abortion. However, I am not going to take issue with him speaking at Georgetown, or doing a commencement speech at ND. Now since they have decided to award him, I can understand the outrage. I think prayerful protests will be fine.

My thoughts are, even if he isnt religious right now, he still has a job to do. With the economy the way it is, and also with the world the way it is, I think he actually was the best candidate. I feel more comfortable with him then I would have felt with someone like Palin. For me, Palin was McCain's downfall.

As far as his broken promises, let's be serious. If anyone thinks that a 'politician' will not break some promises then that is a foolish thought. I have no idea what promises that you are speaking of, but at the end of the day, it seems you are asking him to be more than just a President.

It seems to me that if he attended a 'prayer breakfast' then you would find something to criticize him about that. He can't win, so why should he try? Maybe he just is a realist and looks at it like, since you all hate him so much, then he wont pander to you like other President's have.

You see, this was my thought from the beginning. If people would put aside their outrage and try and engage him respectfully, then maybe we could have gained his ear. But when he know's how much he seems to be hated, he probably looks at it like, I will never please these people anyways. So we lost a great opportunity to reach out to him.
The Glendal woman that was due to speak, could have been a great opportunity for ND in light of the situation. Now she is not speaking, and he is still going to be there, and be awarded all the same.
What has been resolved? I think it is a missed opportunity. Also, when he see's those planes flying over and the protesters, he may just not deal with any religious groups at all. We are pushing him away, instead of engaging him.

I guess I understand that votes will make a politician of a certain party re-think what the people want. So I understand that. But I also feel we miss opportunity for dialogue, with a man that seems to be willing to dialogue with most leaders about things.

Re: CatholicVote.com

My son will be making his confirmation this fall. What is it about? I will check it out.

Re: CatholicVote.com

AMN,
That is true when your policies are not liked that eventually the President isnt liked either. However, that does not mean he will lost a 2nd term. Look at Bush. Many hated his policies and yet he won 2 terms. Now also, most 2nd term Presidents have it rough and usually something happens where they lost popularity. We have a long ways off though before his term is finished. So I guess we can wait and see what happens. Right now it doesnt seem the Republican party is fairing all that well with the majority of people in the U.S. So if they can run a worthy candidate then we will see.
If they run what they have (the people in the headlines today, Palin, or Steele, or Bobby Jindal, or Mitt, even Huckabee then I don't see you having all that much to work with.
Your party needs new blood, and your party also needs to be able to attract moderates. Not just the far right wing religios folks, but moderates and youth. Oh, and don't forget minorities.
So again, I guess we can wait and see how it goes. Not looking so hot at present though.

Re: CatholicVote.com

But he backed off of FOCA.
