The whole shell can run on the desktop as a normal app. You'll be able to run it once the code will be public on launchpad.

Ubuntu 13.04 indeed, after how many years of Ubuntu - GNU/Linux development? This is like starting a new operating system in many ways... the hardware target is totally different and the shell is at its early stages. Let's see how things are going in few months ;)

It's very true that making a whole icon set is long, it's also true that Matthieu is particularly awesome with inkscape :)
I'd personally take it easy and have it complete with less rush

Design detail: the rounded corners are not simple arcs of a circle but they are all following the shape of the Ubuntu font. :)

This was not our decision, but a Gtk+ one. We are simply using Gtk+, and the two horizontal buttons is the new implementation of the spinbuttons

on the video they look slower than in the reality, because it's recording and maybe loses some frames.
In any case, we will probably refine all timeouts and animation speeds within this month.

On a touchable interface, I think only a small bar not clickable, (just as an indicator) makes sense

I don't think a touchable interface should have scrollbars at all, you should be able to swipe to scroll content.
