The United States Constitution does not afford unrestricted gun rights. It is not unconstitutional for the government to place restrictions on gun rights. Because he ignored the law, this teacher has most likely ended his career not to mention his ability to keep his concealed carry license. When I worked in a convenience store, I carried a concealed handgun knowing that I would be fired if I ever had to use it or if anyone even found out that I had it. I knew I couldn't be arrested because I had a valid gun license and my store was not a restricted establishment, so I made a choice to violate company policy. This teacher made a choice to knowingly violate state law as well as school board policy. Now his is reaping the whirlwind. It's just that simple.

Depending on the time of night or particular neighborhood, I frequently go into Jack In The Box, Taco Bell, Panda Express, Burger King, etc. here in San Antonio, Texas openly carrying my pistol and I have yet to see a single one of these fast food joints with any signage on the door regarding firearms other than a 30.06. Nevertheless, the pressure to ban open carry does not come from Moms Demand Action or any other group. These decisions are made, and should be made, by the corporation or the individual business owner based on what they, he or she believe is in the best interest of their company or their customers and shareholders. For those of y'all that are Texans, you now that Whataburger, a Texas staple, was the first to announce ahead of the Texas open carry law going into effect Jan, 1 2016, that openly carried firearms would be prohibited from all locations company wide. I have no problem pulling my shirt out over my sidearm so that I can walk into McDonalds, or Whataburger, or H.E.B (grocery store) or to my auto insurance office (Direct General) and I do not believe these decisions violate my Second Amendment rights. Your Second Amendment rights may or may not stop at the front door of a private business because you'd better believe they absolutely stop at the end of my driveway. I just laugh and laugh and laugh whenever I hear someone say "Well I'm never going to shop here or there" - In fact, since January 1st, I have seen exactly 6 people, 7 including myself, openly carrying a hand gun in a public space or private "opencarry permitted" business in San Antonio (the 7th largest city in The United States) populated by 1,327,407 people. I think Open Carry supporters truly believed that on New Years Day, Texas would be crawling with people openly carrying their handguns. The fact of the matter is that most licensed carriers prefer to conceal their handguns. My fear is that one day some idiot in Austin (Texas State Legislature) will try to outlaw concealed carry and push a law that says "openly carry that firearm, or don't carry one." Don't laugh...this is Texas and anything is possible.

Good question. I moved to Texas from Los Angeles 6 years ago. I got pulled over by the San Antonio Police not soon after with a loaded Sig Sauer 9mm pistol concealed in my waistband. I loaded Military issue .45 1911 in the center console and a loaded Taurus .380 auto in the door panel. I spent 20 minutes with the officer chit-chatting while he checked out my Grandpa's old .45 and then a gave me a polite warning about getting my burned out left turn signal light fixed. Can you Imagine if the LAPD had pulled me over somewhere around the area of 120th & South Central Ave.? - JESUS CHRIST! - He would have been screaming into his microphone for back up and I'd still be in prison.

The point of his post was that OC draws more attention, not that it creates a problem. To suggest that open carrying does not draw more attention is like saying that walking into a store with your penis hanging out won't draw any more attention to you than if it wasn't. Of course it will and how ridiculous it is to suggest that it wouldn't or that statistics are need to quantify such a claim claim. It's just simple logic.

I admire his courage to make this his final brush with the law. You can hear the tone of suicidal surrender in his voice and could tell that even he knew that he had just a matter of minutes left to live. Good for him. He said what he had to say, bid farewell to his kids and family, and left standing on his own to feet. It's a win-win from just about every angle.

It was never any secret that "open carry" in Texas would have a negative effect on concealed carry. Whataburger has already announced that they will prohibit openly carried guns, but will not have an issue with concealed handguns. I think Whataburger is making the right business decision. What mother wants to take her children into Peter Piper Pizza or Golden Corral just to see a bunch of grown men trying to compensate on their hip what they lack between their legs? - I carry a gun everywhere I go hidden from public view, the way it should be. What you are witnessing with open carry in Texas is the equivalent of how women show off their handbags. For the ladies it's Coach, Louie Vuitton, Micheal Kors, and Dooney & Bourke. - For the men it's Glock, Colt, Ruger, and Smith & Wesson. It's a fashion show, okay? Plain & Simple.

I agree 100% - I was raised by ultra Catholic parents who required church attendance everyday except Saturday. At the age of 13, I realized that the whole concept of a super natural creator was a bunch a hooey. By age 15 I summoned the courage to announce that my days of church attendance where over. I hope some of these Duggar children will summon the courage see the toxic nature of their upbringing.
