I don't think that the recent play of Devan Dumes can be overstated. The kid has matured leaps and bounds as a basketball player. Yesterday's game was another example of that. Solid work by TC and co to get him around the corner and make him look like he belongs in the B10. I honestly think he will start next year if he keeps this up, and deservedly so.

It was also nice to see Kyle Taber actually look like he belonged out on the floor last night. Diving for loose balls, cutting to the basket without the ball, doing the 'little things' that players should be doing. Hopefully he can keep that type of play up.

Feels nice to get the first notch in the belt, would love to see an upset against the Illwhini.

I was also lucky enough to catch last night's talk. Between the $2 pitchers of Coors Light and Calbert Cheaney making an appearance, it was a nice little precursor to tonight's romp up in Evanston.

If there was one thing that I took away from his appearance, it was the energy that Crean exudes when he talks about the program. It truly was a relief to hear him talk about where we've been and where we are going.

I also got to ask him what the deal is with his choice of Diet Coke or Coke during the game, to which he replied -- 'During games, I need the high octane'

Here’s hoping that Hoosier Nation is represented well tonight.

I was only able to watch the first half of the game, and I found myself texting buddies like a giddy school girl. Despite the fact that these kids blew a golden opportunity, its hard to be mad or frustrated, in my opinion. Every game, every play every second is a new experience for these guys and this team, so its reality that collapses like this will happen.

I am somewhat confused as to why people believe that IU should beat Lipscomb "this year or any year"... "on the road or at home"... or whatever stipulations that were put out there. The fact of the matter is that Lipscomb has played together longer, has more experience and was the better team for 40 minutes. I believe that is what wins games, not the name of school being worn on the jersey... To echo some of the sentiment above, its time to walk the walk. Let’s take our lumps with a stiff upper lip

I think its finally setting in just how far back the Sampson mess has put us. How do we stay competitive against Gonzaga then play like dogs against Corntucky and NE? Thank goodness the Bears won.

A few thoughts to mirror your commentary:
Tijan Jobe - 'Project' doesn’t even begin to describe this situation.
Daniel Moore – I, like most people on this blog, like how this kid plays. He facilitates well and has a good handle. However, when he is in the game, it’s like having 4 players on the offensive side of the ball. That becomes a problem when you have no big guns to turn to when you need some points.
Kyle Taber – I was a little surprised to see how fluid his shot looked from the arc and that is def something that I would hope we see more of. Having to defend him on the perimeter increases our chances of scoring inside or grabbing a rebound… Speaking of the 800 lb gorilla, it could get real ugly against teams with legit big men when it comes to grabbing boards. I would really like to see our guards crash the boards a lot more. That, in my mind, is the one chance we stand of getting the ball out of there against those aforementioned teams.
Other wise, despite the fact we barely beat a mediocre team, a win is a win, and this one was nice because it came under some duress. It was a priceless learning situation and one that will hopefully be beneficial down the road.

Are people really that morose over this? It’s unfortunate that this had to happen to this kid, or any kid for that matter. But let’s put a little perspective on this. Were people on this blog really banking this season on how well Taber performed? Was he the tried and true floor general that was going to help the guys pull through in a close game? I just dont see that. This upcoming season has been a lost cause for a while now, and anything good that comes out of it is a huge bonus.

That is correct... in order to be considered a felon, one must commit a felony. From what I understand, Mr. Sampson is not being charged for breaking common law.

‘Sleazebag’ may be better suited for the aforementioned coach.

On the other hand, while I agree that maybe this young man may not be what the program needs now (or ever, for that matter), I don't think it’s justifiable to tag them with these kind of names. Misguided and foolish sound like a nice adjectives for this fellow.

I am pretty sure that calling any of these kids 'thugs' is not justifiable (thugs usually sell drugs, rob/kill people - not chest bump refs or throw tantrums). Regardless, while it’s not a favorable outcome for this program, I don’t think next season's success/failure was riding on the coattails of Eli Holman. All this situation is going to do is make TC reach deeper into his bag of tricks to fill another void. Holman or no Holman, we are lucky to be a .500 club at the end of next season. First things first, let’s just pray the NCAA doesn’t throw the book at us.

Not sure how old/new this is. But Bruce Pearl was on the Dan Patick radio show today and pretty much told/asked DP that while IU was once his dream job, why would he leave something he has built that he believes is on par with IU now.

I am not so sure this guy wouldnt catch the next puddle-jumper to Bloomington if the money was right, but it doesnt sound too promising.

I was baffled to hear that Bennett didn’t want to pursue talks with IU. Even if he had no interest in the gig, wouldn’t he at least want to make it formally known to WSU that he is now a commodity, forcing them to throw a little more cash at him?

On the other hand, this is a tad embarrassing for us, but I guess it comes with the position that this program finds itself in.

However, I don’t think this should put Hoosier Nation in panic mode just yet. There are a handful of desirable candidates out there and if we cough up enough cash, we shouldn’t have a problem nabbing one of them. With Bennett most likely out of the running, what do people’s ‘wish list’ look like now. I think Pearl should now be in the crosshairs of this search.

Is this post satirical? Does Pearl appear to be a guy who wouldn't take a job because he is afraid to travel Champaign to play a basketball game? Have you ever heard of a coach turning down a big time gig because he/she didnt want to face a rival school with whom he/she had bad blood with? Simply ridiculous.

In my opinion, this is should be our main target. I dont know where all these people get the idea that he wouldnt come to Bloomington. Money talks and basketball is the life-blood of this school. Tell me this guy wouldnt want that?

Sure, there's a chance he might use us as a leverage, but he'd be a fool not to listen.

I understand the loyalty aspect to KS. Fine. Unfortunately, I don’t think this has nothing to do with loyalty at this point. This has to do with maturity, and it doesn’t appear that Ellis has too much.

You want to talk about frustration? Look at DJ White, and then tell me if you believe the way Ellis was/is acting is justified. White has now played under three coaches in his short 4 years. Its time for Ellis to pull his head out of his butt and realize that if he can’t play for the coach who recruited him, he sure as hell can play for the 12 other guys who he has spent countless hours with working to achieve the same goal.

I believe that McRobbie said that there was no provision in KS' contract for suspending the coach with pay.
