Ugh. That story is horrifying. I feel like most, if not all, men need to read that and really try to understand. It's not a compliment. It's not cute. And we aren't bitches for not responding the way you want us to. I know exactly what she means when she says she is adept at pretending to read while taking in her surroundings. I have become immune to whistles and catcalls (meaning I'm able to not react openly, not that it doesn't bother me). I always have a plan for avoiding eye contact in order to reduce the risk of encouraging them. I just wish I knew how to make them get it.

Now go to bed!

Welllllllllll... I think the "Christmas spirit" is one of kindness and giving, not being godfearing--and I think most people mean it that way too. I take the ads as saying, "Hey, you can do that, even if you don't believe in god." But I see how religious people already on the defensive would see it your way.
