Went out to dinner a couple of weeks ago with a gluten-free friend, and we did indeed look at menus online. Thank goodness she read the fine print ... since the menu had gluten icons next to dishes that HAD gluten, instead of those that did NOT.

I can't believe the HATERS jumped on dear Kevin in his time of grief. As you know, there was more drama than I'd hoped on Lilly's final day, so I have no photos of the day she died. Here is the last photo taken of us together (about a month before she died). No make up at all, but I share anyway.

Ooh, I like the idea of bistro portions. We've taken to splitting meals on the rare occasions we eat out, but don't typically go to fancy places that would probably frown on that.

It must be a tough balance for any town like yours to balance popularity with the real-world results of more people. I'm sorry to hear that some of your guests aren't enjoying it as much as they'd hoped. I read a novella recently where one of the characters runs a restaurant in a beach town. It had special lines for locals and tourists. Locals always got seated first. It kind of made me laugh, but you have to wonder about a policy like that in real life.

Thanks for writing about this. Having lived with a dog who had seizures and now a dog with heart issues (who has full-on collapsed from it), I found the video really upsetting.

Interesting idea. Once for Lilly, I was trying to make a big / expensive treatment decision about how long to try a new chemo med. I was having a hard time getting a straight answer from the specialist because the answers was pretty much, "I don't know." Later when I got fussy about it, one of the technicians told me that it "wasn't the specialists 'style' to coddle patients." I don't remember what I actually said in reply, but I was thinking, "I'm not asking for a HUG. I'm asking for help making a clinical decision." Maybe it would have helped to have someone in the middle to clarify my needs and at least get some some info upon which to make a good decision.

After being married so long and from doing so much wedding / relationship writing for so many years, I've always said people should ride a tandem bike and paddle a tandem kayak before getting married. It's a real test of patience and teamwork. We've paddled a bit on a lake, and I kept dumping water on Tom from my paddle. Not sure how, and we did go in circles for a bit, but we had a great time. This outing looks awesome.

Love the phrase "virtuous circle." As a major dog lover, I'd say many of these same issues apply to dogs who are kept indoors too much without enough natural enrichment in their lives.

Well, since I only leave the house like once a week, I'm not sure I can do it every day, but lately, I've been grabbing bagged poop on the trail that people leave behind. I mean, I assume they plan to pick it back up on their way back to the parking lot, but I've been grabbing the bags and taking it with me ... for this exact reason ... I don't want people to think poorly of ALL dog peeps. This is a great campaign. Good luck!

Wow. I can imagine people feeling this way. What I cannot imagine is someone taking the time to lambast you personally about it. I'm so very sorry you got hate mail. The reality is that your dogs are WITH you and ENGAGED through contact, activity and love 24/7 ... many dogs who live in big houses, with big backyard don't get even a fraction of the attention Buster and Ty do. And, since I've personally met them and seen their accommodations, I can attest to their happiness and well being. NOTHING BUT LOVE ... from all of us here at Champion of My Heart.
