Jim- if you love smoke so much, how about going to the smoking longue at the airport and inhaling DEEPLY! Jim- the government is NOT banning smoking- just outdoors in this case where people what to live smoke free. Many countries, where smokers are the MAJORITY, now ban smoking as well. Seems like most people over 18 in Germany smoke yet there are bans at airports, restaurants, train stations, and on and on. It's not just the Del Mar City Council that thinks smoking is gross.
Jim- I think you need to go to the Body Exhibit and look at the lung of a smoker that died. If people don't like rules, they can move to another country.

Glad they passed the ban. Smoking is a disgusting habit that stinks! A lot of smokers just toss their cigarettes in the street when they are done.

This is really terrible. However- the parents allowed their teenager to be out at 1:45 a.m.. Those kids were drinking and could have killed many other innocent drivers out on the road that night. Finally, it is AGAINST THE LAW NOT TO WEAR YOUR SEATBELT folks! This tragedy could have been totally avoided.

I don't understand this letter one bit. The reason why we are 47th in the nation is because of the HUGE amount of illegals in this state. The parents refuse to learn English since they are catered to with bilingual forms everywhere and on the phone, etc. Many of these illegals are also poor. As a teacher working in both rich and poor districts, 99% of the time it is the student's own laziness for the reason they are not doing well in school. The parents don't discipline them at home and allow them to just watch TV after school. Stop blaming teachers and instead blame lazy parents and kids and the government for not shipping illegals back to Mexico and elsewhere.

I'm not an engineer, so I'm not sure about this, but they should have NEVER have put that super UGLY brown box Marriot next to the 5 where the 56 ends. What an eyesore. Perhaps instead of building that, they could have put an off ramp/on ramp there?

Get rid of the 1 car per green meters too. They don't do ANYTHING but create more backed-up traffic.

No sympathy here at all except for the daughter. This stupid woman let a VIOLENT criminal into her and her daughter's life. The guy already served two years in prison back in 1993!!!!!! The daughter could have been killed as well.

I'm glad he'll be out before he's 74 to kill more people. Great justice system!

The car seat should be in the middle in the back (not on the sides as the kid and roll out or you can get T-boned at an intersection). I am very suspicious that the seat was not put in correctly, the child was not seat belted correctly, and alcohol was involved by the BMW driver.
Secondly, why was a 2-year old out on the freeway at 5 a.m.? The child should be at home sleeping.

2 a.m.. Obviously a bunch of drunks leaving a bar or a party. These idiots could have killed others. Second, she wasn't wearing a seat belt so she was ejected and promptly smashed to bits by probably an illegal mexican or another drunk driver at 2 a.m. (who also didn't stop). It is against the law to drive drunk and also against the law to drive without your selt belt on.
No sympathy at all here. The driver, who was also drunk and also without a seat belt, should get life in prison. Instead- the driver will get some bogus probation and be out on the road again right away to kill others- just like the illegal mexican who just killed 3 people in L.A. (including the Angels' pitcher).

Stop the nonsense about the multi-billion dollar desalting plants! The city is too busy paying for the illegals and the watering of artificial turf. If the city doesn't have the money to patch one of the hundreds of huge potholes on Mira Mesa Blvd., they don't have the money for the plant. The money is wasted giving thousands of free school lunches to illegals and their 10 kids, paying for their health care, food stamps and welfare, while they suck our money and water away.

I agree. Send the MILLIONS of illegals in California back to Mexico and that will solve some of the water supply! They suck all the money out of legal residents. They take our water, make me pay for their free medical care, free schooling, the billions spent for all forms to be printed in Spanish since they refuse to learn English while flying their Mexico flags, I pay for their free schooling, free school lunches, etc. Nancy Pelosi is total scum for encouraging yet MORE illegals in my state! Totally disgusting!!!! I am fed up with crappy,corrupt San Diego politicians who bend over for developers and illegals. I will refuse to pay my $700 car registration fee and I refuse to cut back while the state rolls out the red carpets for hundreds of thousands of more illegals!!!

Then why did the city council approve thousands of crammed in apartments to be built in Torrey Hills/Carmel Valley when NO ONE in my community wanted these built next to already over-crowded Torrey Hills School! Donna Frye was the ONLY one opposed to it because of water problems months ago. Greedy politicians and greedy developer and I'm supposed to cut my water usuage by 45%! I think not!!!!!

In caylee Anthony case, single mom,no dad, child dead.
In the Haylee case (missing toddler in Florida) drug addict mom lost custody, dad was shacked-up living with his 17 year-old, underage girlfriend, kid probably dead.
See a pattern here!
Amber also lived with her mom's shacked-up boyfriend. I think the police need to focus on the boyfriend.

Was the shack-up boyfriend given a lie detector test? This is a wake- up call to parents to never let your child or teen out without parental supervision or in at least a group of friends and not to shack up. It always seems to be the boyfriend or girlfriend in these cases that is often the perpretrator. They kill the kid because they dont want to have the baggage. Sounds like another Natalie Halloway story. Times sure have changed when I was a kid! I pray for amber.

What a horrible accident! However-you take a HUGE risk riding a motorcycle on the freeway or streets! If the guy had a wife and family, why take such risks! Doesn't matter if someone was speeding or illegal, even at 65 mph, you're going to end up a splat if you make the risky choice of being a person on top of 2 wheels versus a big metal car or truck. I rarely see motorcycles on the freeway anymore. They should be banned!
