We are trying to preserve the collection so that visitors will be able to see the spacesuits for generations to come.  Any excessive handling or exposure to oils and perspiration would contribute to the long term deterioration of the suits.  The materials that make up the spacesuits are synthetic and breakdown over time by themselves.  In combination, some of the react to each other.
