Where do you find all this new Viet pop, Slanty?? It's better than all the Paris by Night stuff I've seen. Call me a commie, I guess :P They do lack some sort of passion in their voices. But I think that goes for most Asian girl groups I've seen...

Here's a snippet: The new MLE contract bars Kobayashi from eating in any non-MLE-sponsored eating event. This includes hundreds of events in the US (Kobayashi just became a New Yorker and got his own 3-year visa, so he wants to be able to travel the country and compete all over the place), and it also includes basically ALL Japanese eating contests.

At a quick glance, I thought this was a pink film, but if it's directed by the guy who made Nobody Knows, young siblings trying to survive after being abandoned by their parents, then I'm convinced it's something more of a reflection of society.

I have this feeling that some recent Asian immigrants will never really *get* the Asian American movement because they will always have another "home" to go back to. There are a group of Asian immigrants of today who come to America just study at prestigious schools and bring their American diplomas home as trophies as they continue to live and work in their own home countries, so they have no problem being called "foreigners" and "outsiders". Kwak is an asshole, and I bet he WILL go back to Korea, and probably won't have to be told to.

I recommend seeing White Light Black Rain by Steven Okazaki to see and hear the survivors' side of the story, as well as some American servicemen who were involved releasing the bomb.

After visiting both museums in Nagasaki and Hiroshima, I can't help but be angry at America for releasing the atomic bombs on civilians after so many recommendations from scientists and experts, including Albert Einstein, advising them not to.

It doesn't help when young white Americans who visited the Nagasaki musuem were anxious and whining about feeling guilty for going into the musuem, then later chanting loud whispers of "U.S.A! U.S.A!" as they read through the plaques that were presented there.

It might be a cultural thing, although in this article about a mistakened embryo impregnation in Japan, it almost sounds like an inconvenience the government doesn't want to deal with ("bearing and raising children who are not related to the mother is uncommon and has been discouraged by Japanese medical groups").

I don't know a lot of Asian-American couples adopting either...

It was very emotional for many of us on the No side. For me personally, it was like looking into the faces of my relatives and seeing them shake their head at me and hearing them tell me you don't deserve to have the chance to get married. I was reluctant to chant or chant loudly with the group because these were my elders, the people you were taught to respect. But then they started preaching over the loudspeaker and my anger and frustrations welled up, and then chanting No on 8 was no longer an issue.

We didn't engage the prop supporters (though it was tempting!) because it would be pointless to do so to these people who've already made up their minds. The point was to show the press that there are Asian Americans who oppose the ban, a lesson that was learned 4 years ago when anti-same-sex marriage supporters totally bum-rushed us by rallying a crapload of people for the media to see and say, "Hey, Asian Americans don't support gay marriage" and we had no chance to respond.

Apparently there will be another Yes on 8 rally in Cupertino this Sunday... so I am just as skeptical about the survey as you are. I'm just glad we do have Asian Am politicians on our side who support us: http://www.noonprop8.com/ar...

I think this is great, but some of her answers don't seem relevant to the question! For example, what's her favorite Vietnamese designer, she talks about Cory Couture, but then she goes on to talk about going to temple and church?
