Beautifully said! I firmly believe that if you show grattitude daily,you draw more happiness into your life and I have for some time kept a grattitude journal,even if my day has gone down the swanny,I can at least be grateful that me and mine are healthy,happy and safe! Oh and I totally agree with the nursery teacher, yor son is an absolute credit to you.xx

With hindsight I realise I had the most blessed of upbringings,lotsand lots of laughter,my mother,although we did not have great amounts of money,was very clever,and could literally make a silk purse from a sows ear! she would buy remenants of sanderson fabrics to make cushions and curtains etc. our clothes were home made,home cooking was the order of the day and something she has surely passed on to me,I know all too well the comfort and love in good food,I remember my childhood as happy,comfortable and filled with love,and yet being a grown up turned out to be much harder than I thought,was it really that effortless for my Mum? No,she is still amazing at 79,nursing a sick husband without a word of complaint,whilst i constantly strive to be everything to everybody,my mother constantly tells me to enjoy my children every minute'for they grow up too quickly' and it is so true! I applaud my Mothers generation,they have such fortitude.I wish I did.

Oh Dear -5 very poor! I think I shot myself in the foot by admitting I wear red nail polish,pyjamas instead of nightdress and use slang expressions and profanities! I tell you,bad to the bone!

Well,here I am in Newcastle upon Tyne,Geordieland,charity shop capital of,well...the world! and do we have a help the aged? No.CAN YOU BELIEVE IT!!!!!! the poor husband works slightly farther afield,and has spent his lunch hours scouring the streets for a help the aged charity shop,eventually he found one,it was closing down and didnt stock them.Woe is me,I was so excited:(

Lordy! it seems a bit like those sites for downloading music,which are apparently being knocked on the head soon,I guess its a good idea to check out magazines that you may like to try,but I love buying my magazines and waiting until I am alone,relaxed and stretched out on the sofa with a frothy coffee and a biscuit or two! Heaven!

My old Tv gave up the ghost a couple of months back,and against my better judgment I gave way to pressure,got rid of the old 'tv cabinet' with one door hanging off( but at least you could close it and hide the telly) and succumbed to a 40 inch flat screen thingy,which frankly I am still coming to terms with,when the adverts come on I am half expecting an usherette to come around with walls ice cream sandwiches,dear me! I think I may be a time warp housewife! what times it on! I may see myself!

One of the most surprising things I learned when I had my vintage store,was that there is a whole other lifestyle out there! I had 1940s affecionados coming in for wartime clothing in order to attend one of the many 40s weekends which are so popular,the goodwood crowd who loved to dress in 50s clothing for the annual event,and I recall one couple who lived and breathed the 1930s,I found all of them hugely interesting,for most it was a nostalgic pastime,where for a weekend or a special occasion they could indulge in dressing up and escaping from the modern world,but the 1930s couple were real die hard enthuisiasts,even down to their motor car,they had an old (tiny) enamel cooker with three gas rings,and she confessed that at Christmas they could not fit a turkey in the oven! they had no TV!!!!(I almost keeled over at this admission) and spent their evenings listening to their music or entertaining like minded friends,I was quite fascinated by them and their dedication,but also felt that they took the whole thing rather too seriously,and yes there was an element of snobbery about it,I often wondered what their work colleagues thought of them.

I missed the show actually,by the time I logged onto brocantehome on friday evening,I was too late,I do hope they repeat it at some point,if only to feast my eyes on the lovely vintage homes! the bottom line I guess is; each to their own,we all love vintage otherwise we wouldnt be here visiting would we? havent we all returned from thrifting with some little piece of time gone by to adorn our homes with? heck I make my living from it! we all hanker a little for a prettier,lovlier existance,and Oh how we absolutely long for some of those old fashioned values in this crazy world! but,for me personally a little bit of both suffices,I am not brave enough to embrace the past to the degree where I have to give up the present,and for those who do,I applaud you,if you are living your dream,I wish you well,we only pass through this way but once,live it the best way you can,for you! the same applies to the rest of us though,its a matter of choices...and tolerance,on both sides.

Lolalam in the original post Alison did voice her fears that having being filmed herself for tv,that the programme had been edited heavily,I wouldnt worry,honestly! most of us who visit Brocantehome are vintage girls to some degree,I said it in my last comment and I say it again'Each to their own' I truly cannot blame you for choosing to live a life so lovely,its not for everyone,but how dull would life be if we all were the same? I used to have a vintage shop and met many people who lived the vintage lifestyle,for the most part it was a fun and interesting hobby,but for one couple in particular it was absolutely sacred,and indeed to the degree that they almost frowned upon modern day living,which in my personal opinion was a little odd,but that is just my opinion.I missed the show and only saw the two clips from the links,however it looks very interesting and I would personally die for your kitchen! I am sorry that you have been misrepresented by the media,I was interviewed for a couple of glossy mags when I had the shop and when published I could not recall having said half of it! Good luck with your singing career and I do hope something good comes out of the show for you.

Lola I have now watched the programme I downloaded it from 4od,I thought it was great,the clothes are amazing! but I must say the whole programme would have took a totally different slant had it not been for the eerie background music and the slightly sarcastic tone of the narrator! How cool is your staircarpet?

No I like your blog exactly as it is.... unpredictable! some days I am at home all day with very little or no adult conversation,logging on to Brocantehome is like sitting at the kitchen table with a dear friend who one day may be sharing her innermost thoughts,yet another day may be discussing cleaning products! I always look forward to visiting and I am never dissapointed!
