Haha! My husband always laughs at me because roast chicken is MY thing! I always, always make it for company when they come to our house for the first time and its what I make when stressed and in need of a simple dinner, its what I make when I'm sad and often what my mom makes when we come home to visit. And chicken wings? Don't get me started!

Never thought to make a meal out a whole batch of drumsticks....its like wings with more oomph! Smart! My four little boys will love that.

So far we appear to be rat free....I am keeping an eye out though. I think our mobile pen helps keep things fresh and less attractive to the scavenger types.

Ryu, thanks so much for dropping by and then having the bravery to leave a comment to boot! I'm pleased to have you weigh in. I think you have a great point that positive income flow is also something to think about. I'm mulling over a few little ideas to *make* some money in addition to saving on our spending. There are lots of reasons why I'm staying home in this phase of life but I do think your thought about showing my boys something to admire is a good one. I am working hard to cultivate a sense of personhood and aspiration in addition to providing for my sons and making a snug home. I think its great for kids to see their mother aspire to her own personal dreams in addition to taking good care of them.

I like the idea of drying extra veggies. I am dreaming of finding a dehydrator at Goodwill but maybe I shouldn't wait? Winter does mean very dry air around here. Hmm... I should totally look into food co-ops too. Thanks.

Its nice to be able to skype back and forth in the meantime. I know its pretty handy for you guys to be able to see us that way. Its a bummer my parents don't have fast enough connection for that kind of pseudo-visit. We're glad to be missed on all counts though.
