It's a very small part of the game and many people turn it off, because it's easier to play without it. the geolocation part of the game is obviously vital and I'm interested to see how long people will enjoy walking/biking/driving around to play a game.

I suspect though, that the the thing that is keeping people playing is the game design. The game is all about progression, rewards, collecting things, characters and goodish story.

It is these things which are keeping people engaged. It is these things which are motivating people to get outside and walk around. And it is these things that brands can use to meet their objectives.

I think it is through game mechanics that brands have the potential to engage their customers and potential customers in new and innovative ways. IMHO.

Re: Filtering and Sorting Updates To Help You Work Smarter

I'm a little confused with this update? You say you now offer the ability to filter with Custom Fields. It would appear though that you can only do that with Free Text Fields and not with drop down lists. Surely you would have built it the other way. I want to be able to filter to groups of contacts, such as small, medium or large, or small customers, medium customers or large customers. That kind of segmentation I would do with a drop down field, but I can't filter by drop down fields. Am I missing something?

Re: Australian Startup Index - Nov 08

Hey, great work, this is getting more and more useful.

I do also realise that you need to keep the consistent approach for this, but for Fizzy.com I'm seeing the compete rank to be 67k, whilst on Compete.com for October (and I'm guessing this is October data rather than November) our rank is 45k.

For us too, Compete appears to be the odd one out, with both Quantcast and Alexa being fairly consistent, so although we are placed in position 9, I know that we should be in 6th place ;)

Also, the Hitwise AU number is useful, but I did like the comment about 'Aussie Start Ups taking on the world' and it would also be great to get Worldwide data from Hitwise if possible.

Of course that will make the table even wider than it already is, so maybe a smaller font ;)

As i say though, overall this is great work and really useful.

Cheers

Col
3rdsense.com, fizzy.com

Re: The Australian Startup Index - Tell Us What You Think!

My Two Cents....

Traffic - YES!

I think Quantcast is much better than compete and Alexa, but a combination of all 3 is better than just Alexa and Compete. In fact, I would probably take Compete out of the equation, because it is just USA traffic (but I might be a little biased as they appear to have us ranked much lower than we should be, lol)

I think that any other publicly available analytics data should be thrown in the mix, but probably just global (I agree about Aussie start up taking on the world!)

In terms of coolness, business success, column inches (in the press, blogosphere, etc) and most influential, they would be nice to have but as already pointed out, probably just too hard to measure.

Overall, I think it's worth understanding that this is really useful as it is, but no one is really going to make a serious commercial decision based on the data in this list. It is informative, useful and great to have though, so please keep up the good work

Colin (CEO of 3RD sense, who run fizzy.com who came in at no 9 this month but probably should be no 6, lol)
