Clearly it's not completely humorless because people are cracking jokes (although some are funnier than others). Jokes and humor help people get through difficult situations all the time. Besides, you might say there was nothing funny about the Korean War, yet M*A*S*H ran for over a decade and won tons of Emmys.

How exactly do they come to this conclusion? If they do know they are underage then they wouldn't allow them to drink. If they don't know they are underage then they can't measure how often it happens.

I think they only thing they can claim is that it's rare for underage people to be caught at their establishment.
