At this point one has to wonder if they are letting people go to come up with enough money to satisfy their creditors. I mean why would you let go of your head development guy and your head marketing guy? That sounds like they were forced to do this just to pay off some debt and keep whatever credit line they have left flowing. Not a good sign at all.

Re: Uber Shuts Down - PSYCH!!

I didn't think Uber brought anything compelling enough, anything unique enough, to stay around. That's the problem with these companies. It's sort of like Microsoft and Bing. Like renaming their search engine to a cooler sounding name is going to let them gain market share on Google. LOL. You've got to bring more unique value to people than that if you expect to stay around.

Re: 7 Big-Ass Holes in the Earth

Horrible. To have this kind of application growth and iPhone sales growth is really incredible and something only a handful of the best companies in the world could execute. Congrats Apple. It was a long time coming.

Re: How to price an iPhone app

I wouldn't try and make money with the app. Rather let the app sell something else. Give away the app for free to get maximum people using it, then have a backend way of making money such as selling advertising space around the functionality of the app once you have like 10,000 downloads and users using it.

The other model is to write the app so that it markets something you sell, for example clothes. And so your app is a cheapest clothes finder or something. It saves someone time searching and you make your money on the sale of the clothes, not the the app itself. JMO. Good luck.

Re: Welp, we finally got a blog.

You've made it this long which is longer than most blogs make it. The young people have a clear vision of the direction they want this country to go: free healthcare for all, ending of the war in Iraq and Afghanistan, and no drilling for oil but instead alternative energy resources. The victory of Obama was a major blow to special interests in Washington and the Republicans who got us into this mess over the last 8 years because of "anti-regulation" and "free enterprise" and "hands off" government approach of the Republicans and the Bush admin. I think Americans have woken up to the fact that special interests play to powerful a role and that private business unregulated and allowed to pursue maximum greed (aka housing) is a bad thing. All those "governments the problem" Republicans have been rebuked.

Re: Textbook companies should make their material more accessible and affordable

Gee... let's go further than textbooks... let's go digital on the entire school experience! Why save just millions, let's save billions! Let's eliminate all schools and just have students learn online from home! Arnold is such an idiot. We have to get him out of there. Many of my fellow Californian's share this view.

Re: If colleges were paid per graduate, would they be more successful?

I don't think so. Making College free for the people would solve all the problems. Two things that should be free in the United States: education and health care. They are too important to be left to operate under the greed and capitalism model which is why we are having the problems we have today in both sectors.

Re: Volcano Erupts On Russian Island. We've all lived in the digital age long enough to know that the difference between body movement recognition and artificial intelligence. If Milo was so amazing with the AI, they could easily just put the text component of Milo on the web so we could interact with the script via keyboards and typing in words. Everything in this video was planned. It was fake. How about when Milo can't recognize something that you say? And he just happened to have "homework" that needed to be done and an entire section of coding and graphics done for the random event of talking about "homework"? I don't think so. The lady in the Milo video followed the script the computer programmers told her to.

Now as for the body recognition without a controller, that is fantastic. I will be interesting to see if a patent fight erupts between Nintendo and Microsoft once Microsoft releases the specs on its sensor. In any event, there should be a big market for this at multiple levels.

Re: Us Now Documentary

I can't remember who said it but someone referenced the Internet Age as being in a "brave new world". I think there is a fine line between brave and dangerous. I can't think of something more ripe for legal trouble than a website like Zopa. There are laws that regulate banks and how they much loan (no discrimination, etc). Does Zopa fall under those laws? Why not? If loan sharks use Zopa and there's a public record of their activity to where they are obviously doing this as a business, what laws regulate them? Or Slice The Pie, if it's investing, then doesn't the SEC has some regulatory power over them like they do for all investments? Is Slice The Pie properly licensed as a "broker"? Call me old school but I wouldn't touch this stuff until it's clear who regulates these businesses and what recourse I have if I'm the victim of a scam.
