The action is so well shot, the gruesome stuff so well implied, you create all the gore you need in your head. Barely any dialog, too. It's an incredible feat, really.

Re: Who Likes Free Stuff?

I freakin' love free stuff. I'm wearing the first print of your grey Ampersand t-shirt right now. Which wasn't free. But. This is a technical issue re: sound mixing, ADR, and other sound leveling that is all capable of being fixed post-performance, post-filming. This is a concern levied against Nolan, not Tom Hardy.

Re: Rupert Wyatt's 'Rise of the Planet of the Apes': A Genuine Touchstone

Thank you. As I said above, this isn't a review, really. It's just a bit about my experience with this film in particular, what it meant to me and why, and the power that movies have over me and—I hope—over those of us who love them!

Re: ‘John Carter’ Trailer | /Film

Say what you will about Prince of Persia, Troy, and Clash of the Titans... but you leave Stargate out of this!

Re: Learn Screenwriting through professional screenplays

Yes. Which is dark. And philosophically interesting to ponder as one wanders out of the theatre. He stole a man's life. And, throughout the film, (SPOILER) has killed the man and the people on the train and the people of Chicago myriad times over due to his failing to find the bomber and stop the explosion. The last bit proves to the audience that alternate realities exist. Therefore, Colter is instrumental in destroying many, many lives in many, many different alternate realities. It's a dark ending that isn't explored, but it's there if you're willing to give it the time.

Re: Discuss: Would Subtitles Help or Hurt a Heavily-Accented Movie Like ‘Attack the Block’?

Use your "context clues" people. A lot of it has to do with symmetry and proportion and healthy coloration (is the subject not jaundiced or splotchy, etcetera).

I don't think it's a stretch to at least attempt to view Film in the same light. Some things just... look right. The rule of thirds. Symmetry. Vibrancy. Contrast. Focus. There are measurable components to beauty, I think. Maybe. Even if not, it's still something interesting to explore!

Thanks for taking the time to explore it yourself.

Re: Discuss: Art is Subjective, But Does an Objectively Good Film Exist?

Great points, Sean! Thanks for giving it so much thought. This was more an exercise to allow me to play devil's advocate against myself...
