But does that include a graphic representation of the stars and stripes on a T-Shirt; or are we talking literally wearing a flag? I always wondered if there was a distinction because I see a lot of shirts that have graphic illustrations of the stars and stripes in various forms.

Fortunately it was not a health hazard beyond people with allergies, and nothing like salmonella. But it IS serious for those allergic folks and indeed bad PR for the company who do good work otherwise. They make great sausages and need to avoid these type of situations to not lose customers confidence.
