Utility-scale "batteries" are currently used almost exclusively for arbitrage - buying electricity at a low price, and reselling it at a higher price for profit. Thus the batteries are a money-making machine for the investors - which may mean the investors in the utility itself, if the utility owns the batteries (in some cases another entity owns the batteries and has arrangement with utilities to use the batteries). This wonderful cash machine is provided by the extremely short sighted and gullible Massachusetts Legislature and an extremely uninformed Governor.

IT'S THE BUILDERS pushing this in the county and on the Public. They stand to make a KILLING on these builds. They are relentless! After not "selling" the idea to neighborhoods that don't want MM housing the builders resort to tactics like implying people are "racist." This approach seems to sell with the County Board!

The Builders can just walk away with the piles of money they make leaving projects that Neighborhoods don't Want. Builders don't care, they don't have any ties to the neighborhoods, only their greed taking advantage of people. How many builders have gone to the county to make sales pitches about "how great" this is for Arlington? Countless. And by the way, they'll just tack the cost of their relentless lobbying onto the cost of their inferior projects.

"Bending of light," by a gravitational field is certainly consistent with the gravitational field governed by the Laplace (or Poisson) equation in Cartesian frames; GR predicts twice the deflection of a light ray in a field with magnitude varying inversely with distance from the center of mass of the source as the deflection predicted by the Newtonian field. [Edited: Light ray from a source at infinite distance from the observer.]

One result to come out of European "alchemy' investigations was, spontaneous chemical reactions are always exothermic. Josiah Willard Gibbs straightened this idea out with firm thermodynamic basis with the idea of work available from spontaneous reactions (or conversely, the work needed to bring reactants and products into equilibrium). This was not understood for 25 years after his death.

I must mention Romanian mathematician Viorel Barbu, whose work was so much benefit to me in my PhD thesis.

Barbu extended applications of functional analysis to nonlinear DE. Before Barbu, the only functional analysis tools for the analysis of nonlinear DE were the fixed point theorems of Brouwer/Shauder in a Banach space.

There is a mathematical definition of "chaos," but to be honest I haven't seen this provide anything really meaningful to physical or mathematical science, however. such as the qualitative theory of ODE.

I have seen it "applied" to a lot of "new age" woo-woo, however.

Nobel committees have been leftist for 40 years, now they went full blown Communist.

There are no redeeming features of "climate modeling" at all. Explanations of fundamental periodic phenomena such as ENSO are completely lacking. Forget about "warming." I defy anyone to provide an example of accurate prediction of some "climate" related phenomenon by modeling that is observable and repeatable over decade periods.

All of science is measurement, and all of measurement involves error. The error of the purported "acceleration' is the same magnitude as the reported error!

In scientific terms, the acceleration = zero, to that many significant figures.

Of course I read the report, and the article misses the very obvious reason for the observed land increase in he Vanuatu archipelago.

Sea levels have been rising since the end of the LIA, an epoch that climate science denier Michael Mann apparently does not believe exists. Globally this is about 3mm/y, with variation locally.

I would be interested to know what South Sea islands have ceased to exist over the past 100 years. It appears very likely that the total land of ALL islands of the South Seas have increased, although there has been some decrease to some of the islands.

The Science Direct article is tainted with the opinions of the author. The study he reports on does not support his beliefs.
