If we're allowed to include bands from the end of the last century too, I'd put in Bugy Craxone, or maybe The Back Horn ^^. Radwimps are also great, but their last album was a bit filler heavy!

Re: Who's the best post-millenial j-rock band?

People were just rolling off their favourites. I think Hiroto isn't very good at writing a memorable hook in the solo for starters. The solo in Hana is just so messy and off-putting. He also seems to change the pace of the songs with his solos, I don't know how he does it, usually they have one too many parts in them. But It's more to do with the creative redundancy that comes across in Alice Nine songs nowadays with them constantly using out of place and song destroying breakdowns in "C" part of their now permanent ABABCB song structure, that usually revolve around one of his solos.

A prime example of all this is the song Atmosphere. A beautiful song, rendered unlistenable to me because of the breakdown in the middle.
Hana and Sleepwalker also have utterly terrible solos, but in those songs it's everything about the guitars that I dislike. From vandalize onwards their guitars have taken on a really out-of-place tone and style for me. (I'm not one of these people who thinks more rocky automatically = better)

This is speculation, but considering all these changes happened after Tora nearly paralyzed himself with his spine injury, and now that it's Pon who plays all the solos, I am guessing he has taken over the mantle of guitar composition duties for the band. He lacks all the creative subtlety Tora had, who knew when no solo was needed, or when an acoustic guitar would fit better and so on.

Alice Nine was never about the guitars for me. When I think about my favorite tracks (stuff like, Corona, Time Machine, Blue Planet and Gekkou Yoku), it's the the vocal melodies that are the draw to the song. Now the guitars have taken on this new rocky edge and I hate it. It pulls the songs in the opposite direction to were the rest of the band are taking them, and the result is just mess after mess :/

Sorry for the essay Asari. Alice Nine used to be my favorite band pretty much, now their stuff only gets one or two listens on YouTube for me.

Re: review: karasu | "lastica" pv (2009)

Hiroto ruins ALL SONGS with his guitar solos. The exception being Alice Nine - Rainbows, but then that was the catalyst for all these terrible solos. I struggle to listen to any of their newer stuff because even if I like what I am hearing, I know they'll be a terrible solo at around the 2:30 mark that'll destroy it all for me :|

The only word that comes to mind to describe this song is "Romp" for some reason xD. I don't like it

Re: Choose Your Own Gaventurezette

That was my second choice, so I'm glad someone picked it ^^

Re: Choose Your Own Gaventurezette

Kore de Yokattan Desu... (「これで良かったんです・・・」)

It's their best song.
It has this really nice punk fragility to it, whilst having some ridiculous VK clichés embedded in it, like the guitar solo that goes into a 3/4 bridge xD
I love it so much n.n
They were so great before they got the major label gloss bukkaked all over their music.

Re: review: gazette | "before i decay" (2009)

I thought this was terrible.

Utterly utterly terrible.

Re: Tokyo Game Show 2009 "Companions"

Both the MGS girls for me!

I have a thing for gyarus though ._____.

Re: New Chemical Pictures Song - "Ode to the German Fish Woman of Thailand" coming soon!

OMG - Everything I hear by them blows my expectations away and away, even though they keep getting higher! I can see that being a burden. Have you considered big CD wallets with square pouches? I bought one to cart my favourite CDs to Korea with me. It fits 144 CDs in it, takes up about as much space 12 cases would previously (2x2 stacked 3 high) and the square pouches mean you can fit in all the album artwork together with CDs! Ten of those and you could fit your whole collection under your bed :]

Re: Albums Dying More and More, as Predicted.

I really don't want albums to die out! But it would be cool if bands didn't feel as tied to the 'Albums with Singles' concept. I'm a big fan of EPs and one off singles. But yeah, if all physical releases were to die out I would be very sad :/

Korea has already largely changed to EPs over albums. But they also offer the coolest packaging of their releases, (they hardly ever come in CD cases anymore.) Which is something more bands should do I think.

Re: review: despairs ray | "final call" pv (2009)

If I was in a band, I'd totally want to be on "Delicious Deli Records" too!

Re: man transformed into goat!

It's for this sort of stuff why blogs were invented. Sure MM has lots of visual elements to his stuff, but he isn't VK. And sure VK evolved from a number of things including Glam Rock, but calling Glam rock the same as VK is like saying Rock n' Roll is no different to Metal.

Anyway I liked both the songs! Both capture different aspects of the "VK sound" really well! In terms of appereance, AKADO's Singer, Guitarist and Bassist really do look the part! (Bassist reminds me of Zero from D'espa in the Garnet PV) - thanks for sharing Go!
