Generally urban fantasy with kick-ass heroines Dante Valentine & Jill Kismet, young adult vampire v werewolf, none of whom sparkle, and the steampunk Bannon & Clare (magic v science) are excellent.

Elizabeth Bear's Jenny Casey novels (Hammered, Scardown & Worldwired) are excellent too. Space, aliens and brutal technology at war.

Anything by C J Cherryh, another female writer forced to hide her gender.

Tom Pollack's The Skyscraper Throne books are crammed with strong female characters.

Re: Simian Idiot — Big Boss of the Day: Suzanne Somers

I thought I knew what a poncho was. The hedgehog, complete with fleas, was a no-go. No cats - allergies. No dogs - walkies. But to make sure I had the proper amount of childhood trauma, my mother washed my beloved panda then hung him out to dry.

By his ears.

Which detached themselves from his head and stayed on the line, while the rest of Pandy (I was only 6, gimme a break!) fell into the mud. He was stuffed with straw and never, ever recovered.

After that, I never trusted my toys to not suddenly disappear. Or my mother, come to that.

Re: http://dearbabyblog.com/post/4718750068

I cannot remember this advice.
