It's a well known fact that there long have been structural forces that have drawn Israel together with the major Sunni regimes in mutual opposition to Iran. It is also a well known fact that the Sunni regimes in region were very unhappy with Mr. Obama's Iran policy and very extremely disappointed in and distrusted Mr. Obama. This author appears to be the only writer in the last year who has opined on regional events that appears blissfully unaware of these basic truths. Say what you will about Mr. Orange, but his policies were liked and trusted in the region, precisely because he took a hard line on Iran and also due to the unlikely personal relationship that developed between Mr. Kushner and Muhammad Bin Salman.

Mr. Biden's foreign policy in the region may not mirror Mr. Obama's. We already have evidence that they held different views as events unfolded in the region. For e.g. Biden advocated attempting to support Hosni Mubarak in 2011. Mr. Obama did not. Ergo, Mr. Biden's policy may not be the same, even though the mouthpieces in the foreign policy establishment will be largely from the Obama era.

Hard to believe this submission passed editorial muster.

Re: Trump Says U.S. Is Full, but Demographic Decline Is Real Threat - Bloomberg

several problems with the theory. 1) as already noted, most of these immigrants will be low skilled, meaning they will have to go to places where low skilled labor is needed, which will not be the depopulated areas of the country. 2) why would high skilled immigrants live in the depopulated areas of the country, when their skills will be in demand in big urban areas and that is where they will make the most money?

Re: Mika Ditka On NFL Anthem Protests: "If You Don't Respect Our Country, You Shouldn't Be In This Country"

YOU are the one who said "the law is the law".. get your legislators to change it. Perhaps the athletes protest is to raise awareness so that our "elected representatives" look at certain laws?? This was a side issue, relegated to the sidelines and discussed among committed leftists, etc. It was a little bonfire on the edge of the forest, until Trump decided to drive about 100 gasoline trucks into the bonfire and have them explode for crass political purposes and that's what you have now. You had uninvolved people like LeBron James and NFL players who were not kneeling drawn into the fray by the Orange Clown's new culture war. Trump wasn't supposed to "take a side". He's interfering with the private affairs of business.... that's interfering with "liberty" LOL .. Now .. speaking of .. Kap has sued the NFL in court, accusing them of collusion .. now anyone with a double digit IQ already knows that they have indeed colluded and if that's true, if they cannot escape the obvious truth in court. . that makes their Collective Bargaining Agreement null and void with the players union - AND if the CBA is null and void that takes away one of their main excuses/defenses for having an anti trust exemption. You know, like North Korea? relief for areas hit by hurricanes, etc? 2) Trump went FAR beyond saying he found it "disturbing". He initiated a new culture war he felt would mobilize his base which is also the NFLs "base". He pretty much called any players not following "flag protocol" sons of --itches. That's amusing considering that I again think kneeling for the anthem and flag would be considered more respectful under almost any cultural system and "protocol'? You know this is true so I trust you will not argue this point. And swearing at the players? That's not very Presidential, is it? This whole incident reminds of the silly and idiotic stupidity around wearing a "flag pin" on a lapel and idiotic suggestions about "who LOVES "America" the most", etc etc. I mean seriously. I knew there would be areas of agreement. The NFL, aka the NO FUN LEAGUE, which also refused certain players who wanted to honor Pat Tillman and which refused players who wanted to honor the cops shot dead in Dallas... the NFL refused these things on the basis of "uniform violations" (and trust me, there was no political slant on this, they are notoriously anal on such matter period). So I find it amusing to see 1) the President interfere in private business and "freedom", as he is with the NFL and 2) I find it amusing to see the no fun league, now deciding to get "serious" about standing up for the anthem.. a "rule" that is 60 years old, has NOTHING to do with the game, and was instituted at a time before free agency, when the players were at the complete mercy of the employer and completely replaceable. That's no longer the case.

Re: Mika Ditka On NFL Anthem Protests: "If You Don't Respect Our Country, You Shouldn't Be In This Country"

btw re "freedom". I find it enormously entertaining that the people all "upset" over this would be the same people who want to tell us how different, special and "exceptional" America is. In India, the court has ruled that they national anthem can be played in movie theaters. Patriotism and nationalism on steroids is another thing (hence why these "traditions" started during wartime.) re traditions, not the slightest "false" canard, as what a "tradition" is is entirely in the eye of the beholder. As noted, and as we both agreed, several decades ago it was a "tradition" to keep black people separate and discriminated against for millions of Southerners (and their northern "working class" cousins) So forgive me if I'm not swayed by your pleas of "tradition". Well, I understand your view of the strike and the truth is that it was destructive to both sides (it's not the players fault that their leadership negotiated a bad agreement when they came back). I mentioned in such cases the owners with the deep pockets always survive, but to say "fans showed up" (yes, in rapidly dwindling numbers) and that the games were still held.... that's kind of laughable. The owners' "product" became worth much much much less and in a free system a new and different set of owners would have set up a new league, stolen and made a better deal with those best of the best players and the free market would work accordingly :) Compare that to your usual strike where the employee is very easily replaceable. If the NFL owners had it so well that, year, what would have compelled them to ever negotiate again or bring back those "spoiled, overpaid, athletes" who made 20x what they were paying the scrubs????? in purely fiscal terms, that was a horrible decision LOL

Re: Mika Ditka On NFL Anthem Protests: "If You Don't Respect Our Country, You Shouldn't Be In This Country"

well, "traditions" are very easily researchable. In fact, playing the national anthem at professional games really mostly started during WW2.. and after the war, the commissioners decided it was "part of the game". (here's a SHOCKER! stoking the flames of nationalism during wars???) I could very easily argue that Christianity and the Abrahamic religions are a leftist revolutionary plot against our much much much longer "tradition" of paganism :) so arguing on the basis of "tradition" is logically spotty at best (it's a tradition for you, because you are of a certain age). Selfies will be remembered as a "tradition" for geezers in 50 years. LOL whereas now they're mostly annoying to anyone over 35. so lets get back to the issue at hand .. so "these guys" - aka certain black athletes .. want you to believe it's a hardship?? who said that? where? when?? (they may have said that lives for them and or the people they identify with are a hardship... or unjust, or unfair... we can disagree over this, but they have a right to hold their own opinion) Now you can have many interpretations of what different players have said on this topic and whether we or anyone else agree or disagree on them really doesn't matter. It seems like you and I both agree that they have the unique AMERICAN RIGHT "not to stand" for the anthem, or not to say the Pledge of Allegiance.. whereas schoolchildren everywhere else around the world are forced into such claptrap. So now we get into they SHOULD stand for the anthem (flag is simply another propaganda ceremonial tool) . Well SCOTUS has already ruled that it's their free speech choice. Therefore it becomes a private matter between employer and employee. Though this rule exists in NFL "regulations" (along with 100, 000 others from the No Fun League) the teams haven't wanted to enforce it because the times have changed and because their employees arent the typical "meat" that constitute other workforces. These employees are unique and special, and non replaceable (as has already been proven during strike year) .The employer would have preferred to have had this issue simply go away... (and it was only Kap and a smattering of others that took an active stance) .. then Trump, smelling and knowing a political opportunity when one arises, actively inserted himself into a private corporate matter... knowing the business dynamics and the demographics of the fan base meant his stance would find wide support...then stoking the fire for more black athletes to speak out and causing this while thing to explode.. and here I thought that the right and the GOP believed in "freedom" and the government staying out of private business(es)! LOLOL then you have more (white) fans now whining that the games have become more about "politics"? because of a several players KNEELING during the anthem? Where were those same people when the Dept of Defense was spending billions for their "militaristic and nationalistic on field anthem orgies" way past 9/11???? (I guess that wasn't "politics", eh???? the hypocrisy. the shame. Btw, I predict that even before you, and most certainly I will be dead.. that professional sports league and especially broadcasters will move AWAY from televising the national anthem.., thereby removing it from the "spotlight" and thats one way to have the issue go away... then perhaps by the time or after I am dead, I suspect the anthem will no longer be played at every unimportant sports event. They will save it for playoffs, championships and on certain national days (like Independence Day, Veterans Day, Memorial Day, etc)

Re: Mika Ditka On NFL Anthem Protests: "If You Don't Respect Our Country, You Shouldn't Be In This Country"

well, actually, I think Shays Rebellion and the Bacon Rebellion may have affected our "culture's RECOGNITION" of the equality of man .Yet don't worry, I am aware of the pitfalls of historical presentism that the left uniformly suffers from and I don't particularly disagree with this/ (your and this is the typical conservative) response. I find it curious however that they couldn't abolish slavery unlike all the other key nations around the world and it took a huge civil war to do it. Ok, I understand, the ENTIRE economy of the South revolved around it and depended on it.. BUT - that doesn't then explain what happened Post Reconstruction and as recently as Jim Crow. Kind of shameful don't you think? but let's get back to issue at hand.. why are we "honoring" and "daily" this country at sporting events that have nothing to do with the country's government or politics AND why are certain people (all of the same color) always reviled for their social views and protests (read article by Steven Chapman of Chicago Tribune)., He accurately shows that each and every time black protested in ANY way over ANY thing (even the truly righteous causes of the 50's and 60s) majority white opinion was against them each and every time.

Re: Mika Ditka On NFL Anthem Protests: "If You Don't Respect Our Country, You Shouldn't Be In This Country"

every time I get into an argument with a radical postmodernist leftist, i love all those things. However the leftist is correct in pointing out that the "individual inalienable rights" and "laws" only applied to a very particular part of society. Only Land owning non black males. (though there were a few black in the north who escaped slavery early enough or came here non enslaved early enough where being black wasn't a major hindrance (became far more complicated later on). Any one who has ever read a book, any historian will know these basic facts. To your broader point, I'm not really into overt useless nationalism, but I don;t have an issue "honoring" these things on say National Independence Day and other holidays and events which pertain to such things. Every day at a sports game is NOT one of those times. It's just a stupid game. Leave your "honoring" nonsense out of it.

Re: Mika Ditka On NFL Anthem Protests: "If You Don't Respect Our Country, You Shouldn't Be In This Country"

well, first of all I'm no leftist. and 2nd of all, your problem with "freedom" is that the "employers" won't have a business without these elite athletes.. and of course, the elite athletes won;t have a job.. ultimately, the owners "win"< because their pockets are way deeper, but it's not a game of chicken that either side is particularly interested in playing. I'm sure you love it when you can simply get a new batch of minimum wage paid workers to replace the ones who wanted more.. and it's understandable.. I would feel the same way too, but I'm honest to say it's about my selfishness, instead of wrapping myself in some vague notion of "freedom"
