They keep saying "...1 percent of Americans control 40 percent of U.S. wealth...." It sounds good, but can someone tell me what is an acceptable number? 5 percent? 10 percent? or is this just another complaint without any solution in mind?

Can someone also tell me what how much money you have to make to be part of the "middle class"? WHO in fact is the middle class?? Is it people making under $30K? $50K? Seems to be some sort of code-speak because no one ever clearly defines who is middle class.

Here is the flaw in Brian's argument:
There is an assumption that EVERYBODY has the same values and wants the same thing out of life. The fact is, there is an entire subculture (several millions strong) where "getting an education, owning your own home, paying your bills and contributing to society" are considered NEGATIVES. The "Great Society" was an experiment that failed and instead has stripped several generations of any sense of self worth.
People like Brian still hold on to an outdated model that these people want help ("compensation for or remove obstacles in their lives"); they don't; they just want the same handouts that great-grandma, grandma, and ma are getting.

Brian, I dare you: go to Revere Beach some sunny afternoon this summer. Find some young man about 25 years old (there'll be several hundred) "Follow the money" on how he gets fed, clothed and sheltered...10 to 1 odds, there won't be a job at the end of it, nor any interested in getting one.

Shut it down: in 10 years. Tear it down: another 10 years. Clean up the site and make it useful/pretty: another 10 years.

As a minimum, the good folks in M'head have another 20 years of looking at this building.

But let's be real: if this site was underground/unseen there'd be no outcry. It is a 'health issue' simply because it spoils the view for some. I don't see people moving out of town because of concerns over their children's health.

Winny, most people work eight hours+ a day...but they don't get a week off every six, snow days and two months off in the summer, and then get a nice pension afterwards.

Yes, yes, they're better than PC but once you get these kids into the business (real) world they're handicapped; PC's are used almost exclusively in business.

Can't tell you how many interns my old company had to retrain on PCs because their school used Macs.

AND....PCs are cheaper!!

The real issue is this:

The ever clueless school administrators made this decision with only a week or two before the vacation was to start.

No one had time to cancel their plans or make other arrangements.

Just like the horse embarassment, the school should be aware that this is a town where people go away on Feb vacation and could've/should've either 1) made the decision earlier or 2) decided on April vacation instead.

Once again, school administrators with either 1) no respect for the 'outside' world or (more likely), 2) no clue of what is going on.
