Re-read your tweet, and concede I misunderstood your position of their coolness/swag/whatever adjective applies ranking. My apologies.

However, then Venn diagram of who lines up in hipster Brooklyn neighborhoods to buy $200 shoes and high school basketball recruits is probably more mutually exclusive than you (or anyone else) thinks.

Regardless, adidas is an currently an inferior brand and that's really not too debatable. What is debatable (and I see Alex took this position in his mailbag) is how much school's apparel affiliation influences recruiting. I tend to choose the the other view, but I'll guess we'll just agree to disagree.

implication was that adidas
was still “cool” because of their agreement with Kanye. My point was that’s
great if you’re a Music Festival attendee, not a Top 50 elite prospect.

Note to Bozich/Corazza...just because Adidas inked Kanye West (as was implied on twitter) doesn't mean kids under 18 view them as better than Nike/Under Armour. Kanye is popular with the Pitchfork middle aged urban white guy crowd...not the type of recruits we're looking to land.

I think a lot of these problems would be solved by simply being a better program. KenPom rankings for our "inferior" opponents as of Dec 18:

Notre Dame - 34
Butler - 36
Purdue - 49
Indiana - 52

I hope Fred Glass is more worried about that then enhancing our "brand" by OOC scheduling.

As someone who frequently targets Duffy, I have to admit this is spot on.

True story: I'm a season tix holder for one of the above teams and did not make it to one of their 8 home games this year. 3 of the misses were due to family/friend conflicts (e.g. weddings, kid's birthdays), but the remaining games weren't attended out of apathy/disinterest in watching bad football.

This same problem is happening with the school's basketball program right now, as their non-conference schedule is beyond horrendous at home.

Yawn. Wake me up when one of these moralizers actually puts some skin in the game and quits their profession of glorified marketing (yes, that's what bloggers are no matter what Ty Duffy's and Patrick Hrubry's of the world try and tell you) due to ethical concerns. We all know Ty would jump ship at TBL and take the NFLN/ESPN's $ if they gave him a job blogging for them.

I'm sure he feels better about writing that post so he doesn't feel so bad cashing a check from Jason knowing the ad dollars came from a deliberate strategy to make money off football clicks.

PS: As was pointed out below, ND was not founded by Irish Catholics. Going on ND's Wikipedia page could have told you that. At least when McIntyre puts posts up with hot chicks, we all know he's click baiting. Having silly arguments with national columnists backed with sloppy research and baseless claims makes it appear as though you're thoughtful, but you're no better than Reilly himself. Then again, Duffy's carved out his niche hear as the blogosphere's uber-liberal, so keep trolling away Ty.

There's a number of issues here, some within Glass's/Crean's control and some that are not:

- There is a general trend in college basketball to schedule marquee non-conference games at neutral sites
- Basketball ticket revenue is a much larger portion of IU's budget than other schools compared to football and thus must schedule more home games fund the entire department

- Assembly does not have the additional revenue streams that newer CBB stadiums can provide (e.g. suits, expanded seats, etc.)

All those above issues aside, Crean and Glass unfortunately have an all or nothing philosphy when it comes to scheduling non-conference games. Most fans would be willing to live with us playing the likes of Valpo, Cincinnati, Ohio, Kent St, Wichita St, Creighton, etc rather than our creampuffs we currently have lined up.

Glass and Crean try to hit too many home runs and not enough singles and doubles. The bottom line is I don't want to pay more $ per ticket to see us play a team no better than a pickup group from the HPER.

Best of luck to Remy in the future. The recruiting booger eaters will point to the "star prospects" enrolling next season, but I can't help but wonder if we're in jeopardy of having a Purdue like transition in 2014. Crean will really have to work hard to have us make the NCAA Tourney this season.
