Most of the commenters are from the UK, as this situation affects those in the UK. I've observed that those from the UK enjoy making fun of those from the USA (which I am) calling them stupid and lazy, among other things. However, the vitriol and ignorance (with exceptions, like cardocardo) of the below comments are indiscernible from any comment thread consisting of Americans. Interesting. Perhaps all the commenters are just Americans PRETENDING to be British. That must be it.

Re: Microsoft’s Halo: Reach game leaks out on the internet

"If pirates are able to get their hands on the game, the monetary damage for Microsoft could be big." Are you serious? Has the author of this article read ANY of the studies about game piracy in the last three years? MS's bottom line will probably be virtually unaffected. First off, the "losses" from piracy are impossible to determine. There is no way to know how many people acquire an illegal copy, how many of the downloads resulted in someone actually installing and playing the game (pirated games can be difficult to use for the inexperienced), how many copies were physically passed around rather than downloaded, nor can you assume that the possessors of the illegal copy would have bought it legally otherwise. Also, the number of people running modded consoles is infinitesimal compared to the number of consoles out there, and people running modded consoles don't buy games anyway. The PC market is all but irrelevant, since the games have mostly been shitty ports that serious PC gamers have growing disdain for.
It's time for the media producers to stop suing their customers and admit that they will never stop digital theft, and continued attempts are just making legal purchasers' gaming experience more frustrating. MW2 is a prime example, as pointed out in the article itself.

Re: Never mind the rapella - bring a big penis

Wow...I gotta quit putting my pic on the internet. However, these are two dynamically different companies, built differently, with different cultures, both of which are in different kinds of trouble. It takes some pretty darkly-tinted rose glasses to see anything good come of this in my opinion, at least in the short term. Long term, who knows? There are some impressive minds and significant intellectual property at Yahoo that MS can make good use of, assuming they do it right. First order of business, at least if I were holding the tiller, would be to cut loose about 6 or 7 different 'divisions' of yahoo that they've not so wisely acquired over the last couple years.

Re: What an awesome ad

That's hilarious. It doesn't matter if it's sexy or not, so long as it does what it needs to do. Sure, we all hated that it looked like it was out of the late 80's, but we had no say in the choice, now did we?

Re: Keen says musicians are screwing the music business

Couldn't have said it better. It's been virtually proven that the music industry as a whole didn't just miss the boat, they pushed it out to sea on their own and waved Bon Voyage. If they'd made even the slightest effort to move with the times, the changes in the industry's business model would have been gradual, with no talk of putting people out of work. Business models change throughout history, and as long as industries accept it, life goes on.When people stopped buying radios, did RCA scream and yell and cry and go out of business? No, they just changed their products. They're still here, making DVD recorders and MP3 players. The music industry has nobody to blame for their blind greed but themselves.

Re: Vista SP1 RC1 Redux

Quit bein' a wuss.
