I had read that report and thought, how odd that these top schools would have such low Asian American student enrollment. Now you're telling me that in fact, these schools do have a significant Asian American student population? This is fraudulent demographic reporting by US Newes & World Report at best and borderline criminal. It's really disenfranchisement and one more example of the institutional racism deeply ingrained in our society. Where is the accounting? Where is the accountability? I don't see their methodology listed anywhere on their websites. Why on earth would they disregard the Asian American students in the statistical analysis?

Re: More on the South Philadelphia High School Attacks

Wow, just wow. Jason you sound like an apologist for the perpetrators of this heinous crime. Typical blame the victim mentality. To imply that the victims somehow invited these vicious beatings "due to lack of cultural understanding" is extreme ignorance at best and downright dangerous. I get that you had a different experience growing up but to dismiss the very real violence and racism the rest of us experienced is extremely offensive and exactly the type of justification and rationalization the school district, teachers, criminals, and community look for and use to turn a blind eye and look the other way. This was a criminal act, plain and simple. It is an outrage and no civilized community or society should stand for it. To deny it was a racist act is equally appalling and amoral. The silence and cavalier dismissal from people like you will only serve to invite more violence.

Re: Dawen covers Jay Sean’s “Down”

Awesome! What's that supposed to mean? Seriously, these people need to get out more. Plenty of people "of our ethnicity" who DO have hops and height in this sport and in general. Plus, it takes more than height. Back when I used to play, I routinely "roofed" people and I'm one of the "short" ones at 5'9". I am one of the shortest Asian guys in Los Angeles, I swear. In fact, I feel short in China and Taiwan too. Dudes there are tall. People need to get off the stereotypes, it's getting old, real old.

Re: Asians Can Roof You Too

Wat Misaka. 1948 number 1 draft pick to the New York Knicks.

The first person of color to make it to the NBA.

Re: Hate Crimes are Not Funny: Asian American Groups Protest The Goods

Ugh, Ken Jeong is truly the worst! As an Asian male, I can easily empathize with makt's post but your clarification and compassionate reply is appreciated. Thanks again for the dialogue.

Re: Giveaway: Ping Pong Playa DVD, Personally Autographed by Jimmy Tsai!

*Ping Pong Playa is a fraud. Without which, millions of others would surely have perished in the holocaust perpetuated by the Japanese. Considering that more people died in the firebombing at Dresden and more people were slaughtered in the search for Doolittle after Pearl Harbor, I don't but the numbers argument. That said, war is horrific and I do not wish it upon anyone.

Re: Journalists Laura Ling and Euna Lee pardoned and released by North Korea

Calm down. According to the family, they were indeed on the North Korean side and apologized for it. And if you bothered to read my post instead of getting all emotional, you would see that I question what actually did occur, including the suspiciously missing accounts from the producer and cameraman. Also, if NK had indeed violated the border, then presumably China would be very happy with that and has remained rather quiet on the issue.

Regardless of the girls intent, their behavior was indeed reckless and irresponsible. I agree the "story" is important sure, but the risk factor too high and unnecessarily exposed our country to high stakes diplomacy in an already tense atmosphere. Their actions put us at great risk and endangered many people as well as hurt our position in the current stand off. Their thoughtless deeds handed Kim Jong Il a bargaining chip. I certainly think an apology is warranted, the sooner the better. Or at the very least, a full accounting on what actually happened. The true heroes are the 30,000 US soldiers and their South Korean counterparts who ceaselessly and tirelessly without pomp and circumstance patrol the border to keep the free world safe from madmen like Kim. They above all else, deserve an explanation why their lives were needlessly put in danger by two reckless and irresponsible girls. Also the civil servants who worked behind the scenes to pull off this diplomatic miracle.

Frankly, I find your post "off-putting" and "offensive". I think you may be the one living under a rock.

Re: Journalists Laura Ling and Euna Lee pardoned and released by North Korea

I looked at the View website and even did a search but not a single mention. However, Oprah did have a special section dedicated to them, God bless her. Curiously, the front page of Current TV now conveniently is dedicated to them as well thought before today, there was not one single mention. The whole thing is just odd. I would guess a volunteer media black out on the issue to help the delicate and sensitive diplomatic negotiations going on behind the scenes but I am skeptical.

Perhaps most disturbing is the lack of apology or remorse on the girls' part for all the trouble they have caused us and their dangerous irresponsible behavior. Hopefully they will call a press conference soon and explain what exactly went down. They owe us that much. Also, what happened to the producer and cameraman? There are a lot of questions that remain unanswered. These girls have some explaining to do.

Re: Journalists Laura Ling and Euna Lee pardoned and released by North Korea

Extraordinary Very extraordinary. Bravo Bill Clinton, bravo.

However, I want to know why Al Gore was so silent during this whole time. Why didn't he speak up or speak out? And Oprah Winfrey too for that matter, and any of the View folks. The only thing I can think of is that the State Department asked them to keep quiet about it.

Other unanswered questions:

What happened to the cameraman and guide who "escaped"? One would think they has a pretty good idea of what happened.

In any event, the two girls should consider themselves VERY LUCKY to be released, especially in light of the fact that they were in fact, violating NK. I hope they learned their lesson and are remorseful for all the trouble they caused our country due to their irresponsible and reckless behavior. This could have been a lot worse.

Re: Racist 1960s Jello Commercial Shows How the Chinese Were Introduced to Spoons

"Ten types of gelatin"

Very rough "translation"...

Re: Slant Eye For The Round Eye: Long Nguyen And Shoebox Letters

Cool, this guy sounds great!

Re: Dr. Judy Chu *Officially* Wins US House seat in California

If you want to go by the numbers then sure, you have a point. But I believe it is a matter of shameless pandering. The media bias in this country (USA) is quite clear. There are other factors that contribute to the press disparity as well.

1. Supreme Court Justice is a relative bigger deal than U.S. Representative (9 vs. 435) plus one justice arguably holds more "weight", "power" than a Congressman.

2. The Sotomayor nomination was more controversial and thus, naturally garnered more attention.

3. Judy Chu's race was pretty boring in comparison

4. People are ignorant and/or don't care of the historical significance of Chu's election

Still, Judy Chu definitely deserved more coverage. Even Obama's shout out was pretty quiet and overlooked by the MSM.

Re: Fundraising Events out in Los Angeles

Got my tickets for "The Party"! It is rather "usual" quite frankly, especially since Asians are EVERYWHERE and deeply part of the local culture that of course not only would they speak another language but also represent their local culture. Some great examples are Caribbean Chinese, African Chinese and SE Asian Chinese to cite few. Any rudimentary study in Diasporic Asians would reveal this.

Re: Dr. Judy Chu *Officially* Wins US House seat in California

Congratulations Dr. Chu, way to represent!
