For a sales pipeline, bigger generally means better - more opportunities means more revenue. That also means more to discuss, so that is going to take longer. Similarly, if the sales pipeline is poor, that means few opportunities and little to discuss. So is the amount of time spent just a result of the size of the pipeline, or does the data suggest that those that spend more time discussing a smaller pipeline actually perform better?

Re: Deep to Deep — October 2013 Report

Really sorry to miss it - I will keep an eye out for the next one!

Re: Better task management and more cloud please

You are sounding like a candidate for a chromebook :).

Task management is one of the hardest nuts in the world to crack, simply because it intersects with everything we do (it's task management after all :) ) - but we get inputs from everything in the world. As soon as we use multiple systems, we can't intuitively prioritise, but if we don't use multiple systems, we can't prioritise everything.

Just to make it worse, as we get to grips with a good time or task management methodology, our behaviour naturally changes. It is the original "Wicked Problem" - http://en.wikipedia.org/wik... - a system that gets you organised, won't keep you organised, and a system that keeps you organised won't get you organised. And that's from a guy who builds work management systems! :)

Re: Chinwag Psych overview - May 2013 | BLOOM Social Business

Thank you for the write up John! Sage advice. Far too many people use the planning backwards idea (it is what got us started on http://milestoneplanner.com/). Take your vision, make it specific (mission), make it achievable (objectives) then break those objectives into key milestones, then break those down into actions. Amazing how much you can achieve when you do that.

Re: Google to to run digital marketing 'apprenticeships' - Leadership, business and management news, tips and features from MT and Management Today magazine

That's one view. A much more likely one is that Google wants to ensure that Digital new hires in the industry are more comfortable with their platform than any other, and view the world as Google does. It's commercial genius on their part. The rest is just PR spin. See through it.

Re: this is actually happening

Beautiful. This is a perfect quote for those of us who are grappling with helping businesses get to grips with social media (and I mean actually doing it, rather than just tweeting about it ;) ). People are already doing it. It isn't the future. It is actually happening. Right Now.

And so true for anything people describe as the future - 90% of the time they've seen it already. So, by definition, it IS happening already.

(yes, I did just start a paragraph with 'and' - it's the future, I'm telling you ;) ).

Re: Audience & community can co-exist

Thank you Ann (for folks looking for my post, it is here: A perspective on community). It's really helpful seeing things set out in a table.

There is a third, middle, column, which is where many businesses seem to end up: Interactive. An 'audience' style set up, where people can provide direct feedback. Many businesses seem to struggle to realise that an audience with feedback is not a community - It's the power of the networked connections that provide the transformative native of communities.

However, adding a mechanism for the audience to give feedback is a very good starting point!

Re: Can StartUp Britain kick-start growth? - Leadership, business and management news, tips and features from MT and Management Today magazine

Not only are the names on the site big businesses, most of them aren't even from Britain!
