Returning to Los Angeles from Sydney on Qantas’ new two story Airbus, I was seated upfront in a suite for 15 hours with a charming gentleman who said he produced adult movies in Budapest and was enroute to visit a distributor in Southern California.

Mesmerized, I listened for hours as he walked me through the curious genre of adult film entertainment from all its angles. He claimed to have learned the craft as an understudy to Mario Salieri during the 90s in Italy. I am not a pornography aficionado but my suite-mate indicated Mr. Salieri is a highly regarded writer, director and producer.

When I described my story, Erotic Proposal (also published on Oysters & Chocolate), he expressed an interest in filming it. That was after a first-cabin lunch and too many glasses of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. I should have realized he was half-serious!

So after emailing you about my inquiry of a script for Experimental, I contacted him last month and got quite a different take on the adult film industry.

He said the erotic movie market in the States had shifted from films to short clips that are essentially free to viewers via the web. Although attractive actors and decorative sets with excellent lighting and sound quality remained his preference, he claimed adult vignettes are rarely scripted anymore but had morphed to a “gonzo” or no-frills variety. He explained that directors simply verbalized their sexual expectations to the talent and crew and then commenced shooting.

Ultimately, he diplomatically passed on any interest in scripts. I am disappointed, Kay, for having misled you. Under these circumstances, I urge we stick to erotic storytelling: the written word remains an entertaining and compelling aphrodisiac! And I appreciate Oysters & Chocolate as a forum and website for writers like us.

Re: Pornography - O&C Take Out - The Great Pornography Debate

Do you watch porn? Is it in private, or with your partner (s)?
Yes, typically with my husband on weekends and at his request. Enjoying pornography together over a large monitor with glasses of wine in the privacy of our study with a fireplace often culminates in incredible, sustained mutual masturbation sessions.

What kind of porn do you watch? It
It’s become progressively bolder DVDs and streaming video. For months I enjoyed watching straight vanilla foreplay and intercourse but it became somewhat repetitive over time. When my husband introduced me to Euro-produced anal and double, even triple, penetration styled videos, I was shocked but mesmerized. Recently, we’ve sampled lactation and water sports.

Does your partner watch porn?
No doubt, yes.

Do you have a problem with your partner watching/viewing porn?
We’ve been married for years and I’m okay with it; especially, since my husband is willing to share his video preferences with me. I’m embarrassed to admit our lovemaking has grown more intense having enjoyed adult entertainment together.

Do you think that watching porn in private is akin to cheating?
No, it’s escapism within the context of a tested marriage.

Do you feel that watching pornography objectifies women? Does this apply to all pornography, or just certain types?
Some porn is exploitive and, yes, objectifies women; in particular, what is headlined as teen videos. I make my husband, under these circumstances, switch to more suitable, and mature adult viewing.
