The rankin appointment is not even remotely relevant to the clinton smith scandal.
Rankin is not likely to be undertaking confidential and sensitive research for members of parliament. And any argument that he has stopped blogging is also irrelevant. His entire body of work is still available to view today and tomorrow and every day following that simply by visiting the labour/ epmu propaganda site.
NB. I am unhappy about the rankin appointment as well but possibly for reasons that do not coincide with those being screeched by the left.

Giving Clinton Smith a job in the parliamentary library is akin to hiring me as Helen Clarks biographer or you as the man in charge of keeping the donuts safe.
When you look at the history of his blogging and earlier comments at kiwiblog under various user names, I can only hope that the person who hired him was genuinely unaware that he was a hard line left wing hatemonger.
This is a disgrace and I cannot see how national, Act, the maori party or the greens can have any confidence that their interactions with the library and this individual are safe.
