He experienced the killing fields and escaped by the grace of God as he wondered why his neighbors were lying in the mud. When he was about 10 he was imprisoned with his parents who were political prisoners because they did not support the Communist regime. He and many like him who escaped the "blessings" of socialism are very disturbed as they see America's young people believing Communist propaganda here today. We are literally watching our country burn on our TV screens, not knowing how to stop it. It's hard to watch the country you escaped to turn into the one you escaped from.

Re: Mid-Year Blogging Recap + Life Lately | Ivan + Khris' Travels - a family travel and lifestyle blog

I wouldn't worry about not having a big first birthday celebration for your young son. At his age, it would probably mean more to you than to him. He probably has no expectations of what a birthday should mean yet. Our streets aren't as empty as yours since I live in a small city in California wine country. The governor declared the beaches in one county closed, but there was a huge protest over the weekend in Huntington Beach and the police said they would not enforce the government's order. The city is simply following the governor's example of not obeying federal laws. The protest in our city's downtown park, which is a city block square, had 500 participants protesting the governor's decision to keep us closed down for another two weeks. Participants practised social distancing. Our county has had 201 diagnosed cases so far (May3), one death, 44 recovering at home, and seven hospitalized, one in the ICU. 149 people have completely recovered. Most people go out only when necessary except to take a neighborhood walk. Our beaches are open, but I don't think the parking lots for them are.

Re: Priscilla's Zine & Bookstore: Are You Still Shadowbanned?

Thanks for mentioning me so that I would see this. At least we don't have ads on Medium. It's worth the $50 a year I pay to access everything and also be able to earn on what I post myself. I didn't realize what Twitter was doing to those of us who don't have thousands of followers or pay to get posts promoted. I have a friend who normally posts to both Twitter and Instagram. Haven't seen anything from him in my Twitterfeed lately, even though I see his posts on Instagram. I'm beginning to wonder if social media is a complete waste of time.

Thank you for such a thorough answer to my question. Now I'm wondering about all the people whose tweets I look for but no longer see in my feeds. I wonder where we go from here. Most of us don't know how to reach each other by snail mail or even directly by email. I really miss the old Yahoo and Google email lists that groups used to use to communicate before we had Facebook groups. Maybe there are such groups for bloggers and I just haven't looked. I really don't like the commercial newsletter services -- even when free. I hate messing with templates, etc. I've made a lot of friends online that I'd hate to lose touch with if the social networks disappear.

Re: Priscilla's Zine & Bookstore: Twitter's Awkward Compromise

Got here by way of the Twitter link you sent me. Not sure still that I completely understand your tweet to me (@)barbsloco) -- You sent a tweet I'd posted on May 2 and said I'd been shadowbanned. Does that mean you and others are not seeing my tweets on my profile the way they look to me? Or do you mean they get lost in all the ads that are inserted?

I'm as careful as I know how to be to check every profile before following anyone to avoid fake followers. I'm not sure I understand this whole shadowbanning thing. (I don't use chemicals in my garden, either, just so you know.) How would I know if I'm shadowbanned? Does that mean those empty black tweets I sometimes see in my stream are from shadowbanned people temporarily on restriction. I work hard on Twitter to try to show followers what I think they will enjoy. I send different tweets to accounts focused on different subjects. If no one is listening, I may as well spend that scheduling time blogging. Feel free to notify me if you answer this comment. I'm not finding a box to check.

Re: 5 Reasons Why I Did Not Share Your Content

You stated one of the primary reasons I often do not share content on Twitter: "headlines, which are too long.... A headline which is too long for tweeting and expects me to use my brain on how to shorten it so that it fits a tweet is definitely too much to ask for." There are many times I want to retweet from Hootsuite using the "edit" or "quote" option that I can schedule for a time someone might actually see. But I can't use those options if your tweet is not long enough to allow it. I'm not going to bother editing it down to the right character count.

Re: Twitter’s Fight Against Spam, Bots and Bulk Tweeting – And Why You Need To Know About It

What bothers me most are all the fake accounts. That's one reason I don't follow back everyone who follows me. Half of them are fakes. I check every profile before I follow and I become suspicious of new accounts who only retweet or don't tweet at all. I'm hoping the new rules will mean I won't see so many "duplicate" accounts under different names tweeting the same posts following me on the same day.

Re: California Gov. The King of Assyria did that, too, Read the book of Isaiah again. Maybe from chapter 7 to 14. You don't have to believe it. It's really confusing as Isaiah's prophecy jumps from one time period to another and back again. The part that is history, though, shows Assyria, with all its boasting, was defeated by Babylon. In 539 BC, Persia (Medes) defeated Babylon, as Isaiah had foretold. Babylon had also boasted and at the time of the invasion by the Medes, King Belshazzar had been feasting using the vessels stolen from the House of God and praising the idols that were made by men. The story is told in Daniel 5. I would remind you that the history of these events is found in historical records outside the Bible. So believe what you will. I believe God does have the power to prove you wrong if He so chooses. It doesn't matter to me one way or the other.

Re: The war on drugs is the war on our children: Reporter's Notebook

I can't help but wonder where this epidemic of ADD/ADHD came from. I don't remember seeing it when I was a child. Of course, I didn't see as many broken families back then either. No one I knew took drugs. There weren't any drive-by shootings or protests either. Strangely enough, in elementary school we had three recesses a day. A short one in the morning and in the afternoon, and a longer one after lunch. Children had time during those recesses to use some of their energy and move. I think we also had an additional PE period once or twice a week. I wonder if more physical activity during the day could do more good than these dangerous drugs being used to calm kids down now. I don't think kids were meant to sit most of the day and be quiet.

Re: REPORT: Gen. How many people visiting America, especially in the last century, thought everyone was rich and the streets were paved with gold? Thank you, Hollywood.

As for sexual harassment, I have experienced it in the workplace. But I also think our culture should not be convicting men in the public square with no trial. There are some women who falsely accuse men, and, as I'm sure Roy Ackerman knows, Joseph, back in Genesis, was falsely accused by a woman because he wouldn't let her seduce him. He got tossed in prison for it. He remained innocent.

I don't believe women who have been assaulted should remain silent, but I also think they should speak to someone when the assault or harassment is recent -- not wait forty years to say something to smear someone when it becomes a political issue. Being female doesn't make all accusations true anymore than being male makes them false. Everyone should be assumed innocent until PROVEN guilty, and it took three witnesses during Bible times to convict. Today if someone wants to destroy someone politically it's easy to make false accusations and have the press magnify them until the target is pressured to disappear -- guilty or not.

Re: 10 Techniques to Get More Comments on Your Blog

As a recall, you still have to log in with Disqus, and I usually don't bother.

Re: 5 Tips To Place Your Subject In Photography!

I'm beginning to be more conscious of the effect I want now than I used to be. But I'm still in touch with one of my former students -- now a grandmother herself. (I taught senior English.) She was an ESEA student back in 1966, with the deck stacked against her success. Today she is a retired teacher. Her son also follows me on Facebook, and I can see why she's proud of the family she raised. I know I've touched her life. I'm not sure what costume I wore in that classroom, but it must have been the right one for her.

Re: Grandma’s Chicken Soup!

This is sure the right season for chicken soup.
