Andover girls and Central boys were superb wire to wire.
Who says old school team work and fundamentals are dead?
We don't have to travel far to see the best hoops.
Hector - you have walked the walk too. Thank you for the depth you provide, and the passion. You do not mail it in!
Fellow bloggers, same to you. It gets heated sometimes but almost inevitably you are insightful and helpful (speaking of fellow bloggers, a shout out to my buddy Jim Arnold who fell and broke his back in Florida).

Anyway, I stand by my pick of Central over the Prep!
And, I am taking Central girls over Andover, in overtime!
And if I am right it will be the first time all year!

Your coach at Pinkerton - Pete Rosinksi - is a class act.
He is not as colorful as Tony Carnevale - but then again, who is?
But it has been a while since the teams have matched up to Tony's powerhouses.

Londonderry is mediocre. They aren't going anywhere.

Manchester Central and their coach Doc Wheeler always should be respected. But their point guard went down for the season with a knee injury.
Winnie seems like the team to beat.

Well I have a clear conscience and nothing to apologize for.
Except my Final Four predictions:

Lynn English eliminates Lexington.
East Boston takes out St John's Prep.
Cambridge edges Acton-Boxboro.
Andover bounces Central.

I eat crow! I eat crow!
Central by 8 Friday night.
But I'm not sure they beat Madison Park next...

Sorry brother, but I was ahead of you in line. Right at the door before 3. There were three of us from Andover but we went back to our cars to wait after the Central kids migrated over from the parking lot.

And it was an Andover sucks chant. It stopped when Tom Torrisi came out and read the riot act to the Central kids telling them there would be no second chances and that the whole group would be either shipped out, or at best, to the end of the line. And yes I saw the Andover kid give them the finger IN RESPONSE to them heckling. You have a bit of Keith Olbermann or Glen Beck in you - black and white, see what you want to see.

Raiderlife - didn't mean to unhinge you. I will summarize my points for you:

1) Central student body bullied individual Andover fans outside between 3 and 4 pm.

2) Yes, chanting at cheerleaders is pathetic, as evidenced by them being booed down by the rest of the gym.

3) Re Morales you are claiming that punching a player is OK and only merits a technical. You might want to think that one through.

4) My final point is the one Raider Lifers can never refute: You draw a super all star team from 40 towns that could beat some D3 college teams.

Ok Ok slow down your Raider rooters.
Yes, DJ Fazio plays chippy. But it was your guard, Jaycob Morales, who rolled on top of his head and was justifiably whistled for a technical for punching Fazio in the face. You have not commented on that.

Nor have you pointed out the wholesome wonderful Central student body pointing at the Andover cheerleaders and, en masse, chanting: "Second place" at them (they finished 2nd to Central in the league cheering competition earlier in the day).

And speaking of class, I was in line early when your students, at the head of the line in front of the gym, began chanting "Andover Sucks" at Andover fans who were just walking in from the parking lot. Fortunately, your faculty interceded on that one and settled that down.

You have a wonderful team with many great players. But the team is stacked, as you draw from, what - 40 communities ? - and your condescending smugness gets a bit old.

So please save the preaching. Your security detail tossed 3 visitors from your building. The above Central clowns could/should have all been busted for their boorish behavior too.

Last night, SpOrtsfan made a good point about Andover crowd - what is that about? Last year they were rabid. This year is weak. Demoralized by Central? Or turned off by team?

Hopefully you are right and East Boston does not even get past Lawrence tonight. But East Boston is very good.

As for eyewitness accounts, in fact I have seen the Prep four times, including their losses to Central and Catholic Memorial (speaking of CM, they are a dangerous contender, having moved up to D1 in the South).
SJP played terrific at Central, but that will prove to be the high point of their season.
As for Andover, it's the law of averages. They are just due to hit shots. Eventually, every dog has his day and Andover is due.

And in D2 I want to root for North Andover but worry they don't have a true scorer when it comes to crunch time.

Final Four in North:

I like Central's team and coach.
But Central's fans are a bit zealous.
Here are my guaranteed Final Four North Div 1 boys teams:

Lynn English eliminates Lexington.

Andover by 5.

Johnson, Spencer Rose, Riemer give Andover healthy depth. Dowden and a year of experience make Miller, Bramanti and Fazio more formidable.

Bramanti is already the best point in the region - prediction here is that Bramanti is Globe and Herald Super Team his senior year.

Zenevitch and Derosiers both must have big nights for Central to win.

Billerica suddenly does not look bad.
They have gotten some pitching early on.

Methuen pitching worries me.

Schedules will make and break teams. If you face Tewksbury's Wallace to kick off a week, then run into the Central and Andover aces ... ouch.

Catholic Conference is clearly loaded. Good thing Catholic Memorial and BC High are in the South. Malden Catholic and the Prep are enough bad news.

Don't want to go too negative on a high school kid. But Jones is lucky to break the Top 10 locally. True about padded stats against lousy teams.
And Hector, I am sold on Pelham but Salem went winless against Andover the past year.

But bear in mind that he is, like too many others, really a 13th grader. Not everyone has the advantage of playing a Post Graduate year in a public high school!

Injuries have impacted many teams.
It will be a shame for Hojlo to come all this way but be too nicked up to play the title game. Here's hoping he can go and be effective.

Londonderry played its first quarter season decimated. But now they are healthy and much more dangerous.

Escoto going down changed the Lawrence dynamic. But as is often the case, it gave an opportunity to sophomores who benefitted greatly.

And Arnold played on one leg at Andover and they never got over the hump.

Conversely, Central avoided serious hurts, as has Salem.

The only question is this:
Could Pelham beat Salem at this juncture?

What say you Hector?
Head to head and big games have to be your criteria for FInal Fab Four.

Pinkerton does not have even a single big or clutch win.
Obviously Central is Number One.

And great seasons for Greater Lawrence, North Andover and Methuen.
But not one of them can claim a win over Lawrence, Andover, or Central.

For that matter, Greater Lawrence, North Andover and Methuen are not as good as Haverhill. The Hillies would beat any of them best of three. Sorry, but true.

Andover, for all its inconsistency, beat Lawrence, Haverhill (twice), Lowell, Malden, BC High, Brookline, and Salem NH. They gave Brockton and Central good fights.
Andover is Number Two.

My question is 3,4,5.
Lawrence? They beat Salem and Andover.
Pelham?
Or Salem?

My gut says
1.Central
2.Andover
3.Pelham
4 Lawrence
