Excellent piece, Mr. Carney. Unfortunately what derails that conversation though is the plethora of bad actors. While conservative accusations of a liberal quick trigger on the r word are certainly true relative to some folks...

I think a quick perusal through the comment section of this, or any conservative forum pretty much establishes the r word also is alive and well on the conservative side of the world. Even more damning is that such has developed it's own political liturgy - which in itself is corrosive to even initiating any conversation..

It isn't amazing that such "conversations on race" devolve into shouting matches when these conversations are principally held by bomb throwers on both sides. Ergo, you can't expect much but shouting when you put Al Sharpton and neo-confederate Tea Party types in the same room. Nothing of substance is going to happen. Unfortunately bomb throwing makes for "good TV" - so it isn't in the financial interest of any of the Cable networks to host such a discussion.

Congresswoman Chen was the victim of an old fashioned street mugging..

In one of the wealthier parts of DC.

They stole her $2,000 purse and wallet.

That was not the "Knockout Game" as being promoted by Faux News. As far as I know, the Police have not identified or captured the criminal.

The guy from Australia was shot by two thugs, who "Wanted to kill somebody". There is no evidence there was any other motivation other than the poor victim happened to be the first opportunity that presented itself.
