Bob, you make some excellent points. I agree that the naming of the Spanish Flu (named as such, I believe, because Spanish newspapers were the first to report it) is disrespectful towards the other great cultures that reside on the Iberian peninsula, regardless of whether they live within the borders of Spain. Perhaps Penelope Cruz had something to do with this,she being the greatest thespian of all time.

Another disease that hasn't been mentioned is the Anal Warts epidemic currently ravaging rectums in the Delaware Valley. To be avoided, for sure.

Hey guys. Sorry I've been away and that my absence has caused this thread to be predictable and boring. If I had been around we'd be talking about some cool shit like Penelope Cruz or the Rio Grande or, god forbid, Brian Tierney. Alas, I was so drunk last night that I just woke up and saw this festering pile of junk that is Bob, PJ and the liberal media.

It's always annoying when people argue about things that there's no chance they're going to resolve and then air their stinky, rectal opinions for all to sniff. The best solution is to let these two at each other and see how long they can touch each other's dicks.

Yeah, Penelope Cruz is not the greatest actor working today. That claim was idiotic--how can we consider her great when she can't even speak English properly?

All told, this was a pretty weak year for great movies. Slumdog was bound to win awards because it made white people feel like they're in touch with the people they oppress. It's a similar marketing strategy as the Holocaust genre or the African-diamond-poaching genre.

As for Mickey Rourke, was he wearing one of his costumes from the movie last night? I mean, he looked like a Canadian version Gary Busey. And the award for Bad Taste and No Sartorial Sense In A Supporting Role goes to that over-rated clown, Phillip Seymour Hoffman and his stupid skull cap. Just because he's fat and can execute a good scowl doesn't make his acting legendary. Really, the last role I liked him in was when he played George Wills Jr. across from that bitch, Chris O'Donnell, in Scent of a Woman.

You folks are missing the point of VCB--that movie is all about looking at Johannson (sp?), Cruz and the other chick. They're all hot. That's the point of the movie and nothing else. It's Woody Allen, for Christ. It's just about the hot chicks. That's the point.

Nobdoy cares about Super Bowl X. Seriously, nobody cares. What David Tyree did was incredible--he caught a pass that nobody should have caught. That's incredible, much in the same way it's incredible that the Patriorts defnensive backfield was incapable of catching 2 other passes that were thrown directly to them. The Giants had no business winning that game, save for the Patriots' inability to perform the simplest of defensive tasks by catching the balls that were thrown directly at them by one of the worst quarterbacks to have ever appeared in a Super Bowl. David Tyree's catch owes everything to an awful defensive effort.

If it's stupid to say that a particular play is a game-winning play (even though it may be) then we're reduced to speculative conversations like this one where we argue ad infinitum about what we think the great plays are. No, really, I get your point it's just that I think the Tyree catch is overstated in its importance because of what a ridiculous physical catch it was. Nobody would be talking about Tyree's 3rd and 5 if it had been 1 of 5 or 6 catches that had been made on a winning drive (wait, now I'm not sure if that drive actually won the game...).

I totally agree that this game was way over-hyped in terms of its quality. One of the great 4th quarters, for sure. Football is the sport of great overstatement and hyperbole and so I took great pleasure in seeing "defense wins Super Bowls" turned on its head. If the #1 defense in the NFL gives up over 200 4th quarter yards and 2 touchdowns then this certainly isn't the case. Imagine the outcome if Warner hadn't thrown that bonehead pass that led to that ridiculous 100-yard return. That shitty pass took 4 touchdowns and 0 picks for Warner and made the Steelers defense look competent.

The following is a quote from this website's owner. You should remember this quote and use it against him in any future argument when you need to pull a trump card because what you're about to read is an example of a statement that truly does not make any sense:

This quote is wonderful because the exact opposite is true: Holmes' catch, quite literally, won the game whereas the Tyree catch did not. Unless the author meant to state that the player who scores the decisive points in a game is less responsible for winning the game than one who did not, this quote will continue to amaze and circumvent logic.

If you do not believe this creed in its entirety, you are not a true fan but a "fraud" and you may as well go root for an inferior organization with much less historical success. Examples of these fraudulent organizations and fan bases would be the Cowboys, Giants, Redskins, Patriots and Steelers.

I thought the ads were mostly awful, a reflection of the level of cultural literacy the advertisers assume the viewship is comfortable understanding. On exception, however, was the teleflora.com ad where the flowers told the woman to go home to her smelly cats and romance novels. The closing line, "Nobody wants to see you naked" was awesome.

It's always a welcome day in the media world when sports journalists have the opportunity to rake someone across the morality coals. How easy is it for the media to take a score like this in a game where special needs kids are involved and turn it into the My Lai Massacre? Basketball teams score 100 points all the time, especially when they're so much better than the other team. Assuming the score indicates such an uneven matchup, one has to assume that if the coach were really running-it-up then the score should have been 300-0. Furthermore, if he were running-up the score then why did his team only score 12 points in the 4th quarter?

I'm the last person to support the idea that huge point differentials are desirable because they indicate how good a team is. In this case, however, the rush to judgment and an easy media frenzy ignore common sense and as is all too prevalent in witchhunts, fails to examine any of the circumstances of the event other than its outcome.

To boot, the real reason the coach was fired is that he publicly rebuked his school's apology. Failing to toe the party line was his undoing.
