The main point here was the issue of balance, Islam isnt an intolerant religion, and Allah has made it to tailor with His creation, the Prophet (saw) exercised the best compassion, as well as the best admonishing.

Esteban: I would like to thank you for reading my lengthy article, for spending your time and efforts replying, as for all the other brothers and sisters too, I appreciate your comments.

Analysing from your comments, it may seem that you had taken things to a personal level, as some of your answers were quite presumptious about me.

This article wasnt ignoring any aspects of understandings of the way people live, and have been brought up, and where etc, as 'd' stated that, we are all at different stages with our Emaan, which is obvious with anything, you have the higher levels of ability, and the lower levels,

Its the conviction we have as an Ummah which I am questioning, and the over sympathising, which unconciously we lower the bar on our selves, as Siraaj mentioned, if we set ourselves high standards, then inshAllah we can reach them... this is what we fail to do, and we need to be compassionate to those whom have just began in the deen, as everyone starts at low level, and works up,no one starts with ultimatum piety, but a culture is evolving of excusing, and things are softening up, so no pressure is felt, and thus people lower their bar, we all need to give each other the push, as well as give each other the comfort, otherwise, why would Allah adress punishment?

As for lacking adab, its the standards set again, if we see someone failing, who are the ones that need to give them a push here and there, no one is born with adab or high emaan, it is taught,

Thank you for your points, it has broadened my understanding, which is what I had intended this article for, and did say at the beginning that there maybe many who disagree..

MashAllah, i think this is what students of knowledge need to be reminded of before setting on their path to knowledge, because many people are blinded by the excitement of a new place and the adventure.

Truth is, we run after the so called 'big giants', but forget that before the big, we need the smaller steps. Every step leads to another step. MashAllah, learning institutions for Muslims are progressing and ulemah of their own contries are trying hard to bring the message their, because everyone moans at the lack of it, but while we have it, our eyes are set further afield.

I loved this article, really hit home.

True say, that people try to apply those fatwas specifically stated in need of hajahs are used at conditions which wont be classified as Hajahs, its not the fatwas that are the problem, its the people.

The individual knows themselves if they are being truthful or using such things as way outs, and Islam isnt here to burden us, so let Islam carry onto flourish and not let the problems of the intent of people hinder it.

It is related of al-Hasan ibn Abil Hasan al-Basri that he once passed by a group of people who were laughing merrily.

He said: 'God, Great and Glorious is He, has made the month of Ramadan a racecourse, on which His creatures compete in His worship. Some have come in first and won, while others have lagged behind and lost. It is absolutely amazing to find anybody laughing and playing about on the day when success attends the victors, and failure the wasters. By God, if the veil were lifted off, the doer of good would surely be preoccupied with his good works and the evildoer with his evil deeds.'

I would like to take this opportunity to greet you all, to congratulate you on the advent of blessed Ramadan,, I make a sincere dua to Allah alone that He makes this month a means to ease your worries, that he replaces it with goodness and transforms your world into a Jannah in this life. May Allah give you what your heart desires and amaze you with His bounty and grace. Ameen

Hmm..Ramadhan Objectives..

1 - Pray Salah on time - (i) Earliest time :)

2 - Complete Quran (ii) Better my recitation

3 - Implement more Sunnah - (iii) or those which I have neglected over the year

4 - Leave some sins

5 - Improve Character

6 - Repentance

7 - Learn how to cook - yes thats right!

Overall objective - Gain Taqwa.

Br. ZK, The size of your Quran will depend on how many pages you read after every Salah :)

I've heard people put weight on during Ramadhan, because we eat (well some of us).. before we sleep during Sehri/Suhoor, and also now that Iftar is later, we will be eating more closer to bed time.

Working out before Iftar? Where will you get the energy from?!? You'll be drained out by then...

Finally - What are your objectives Imam Suhaib..hmm? (Hope that doesnt sound cheeky) :-)

your free-time before your preoccupation,
and your life before your death.

Wa Aleykumasalam,

Well, Servant of God. It is great news for the ummah, because if you look at the wider picture, theres a lack of Muslims participating in activities which are beneficial wider community, not that there isnt need for scholars, yet we needed to be rounded as Muslims, or otherwise we are seen as ignorant and lazy if we be specialised down one particular area.

You'll see hardly any Muslims writing established books about environmental issues, or papers by Muslims which have in great science debates. There is a deficit of Muslims in a lot of Professionalities.. it makes us look ignorant.

How many Muslims have crossed the atlantic? Or climbed Mount Everest? A handful if any.

We all need each other, and this can be an opportunity (above) that exposes Islam.

Allahu Alam...This is my perspective.
