Doc, I agree with you sentiments and your anger. Years ago I gave up everything I owned and went to live in the streets with the poor. It was very enlightening and I suggest you do the same. You live in a commune and the people there are making that much money? I live in a motel (my fifth year) and beg for food from whoever I meet. On SSI after paying for the cost of my room I live on 280 dollars a month. No more or less. If someone buys me lunch I'm required to report it to SSA and they will deduct it from the next month's SSI payment. The government last year took away my dental care from my medicaid and deducted 65 dollars per month from my food money. I am crippled and have no "right to work" and no "right to live" but still have a "right" to buy a gun and smoke dope here in California. What universe are you and I living in? Not the same one, obviously. Wake up Amerika. The revolution will not be televised.

Yes, facism reigns. I was born in 1953 and grew up in a country that had recently defined itself as an ememy of facism (that of Germany, Italy and Japan). So what happened? My country died. The country I swore to defend (twice) died. The country of, by, for the people died. It's gone. Gone. I don't envy your youth. I have too much grief to even continue writing.

The law is a commodity for sale to the highest bidder. It's not moral or ethical. You were more correct to write, "the law is dead," than to write,"Long Live the Law." The game is and was always totalitarianism. My favorites are Kafka, Heller, Orwell, and similar authors. Too bad the establishment has been able to divert the attention of the young away from those writers. Obama also has quickly been seduced by power. All is lost. There is no more to hope for. I'm glad it's over for me. I don't envy anyone who has to exist in this formerly "land of the free and home of the brave".

The more I read these blog comments the more I get the feeling that everyone here in this country has for years been watching "Law and Order" re-runs (the way we watched "westerns" in the 50s and 60s) and thinks, writes and acts like a bunch of lawyers (the way kids used to think and act like the "cowboys" they saw in the moralistic melodramas of the past). You want to know about the "truth"? Lawyers are prostitutes. They are taught that in law school. Full of sound and fury, signifying nothing. I still love Shakespeare.

Unerstand this: America's religion is the cult of money. There is no shame attached to it because Americans are a shameless people. Pride is the only thing an American is taught to feel, regardless of reality. They also have no conception of right and wrong. Never did. Whatever occurs to them is right as long as it furthers their goals which are materialistic. Whatever contradicts what they desire is wrong. Money is God, nothing else. Power is the path to money. Since the beginning the states themselves were all Proprietary Enterprises or what we now call corporations and companies. Any talk of virtue has always just been propaganda for the elementary school child's indoctrination. Grow up, live with it, learn to live with it, or leave.

The super rich right, represented by all three branches of this government, incorrectly believes they will win something of monetary value by this decision. The majority of people of this country are poor, something like 80 percent live on speculation of future wages (in other words, dreams) which are disapearing before their eyes. The winners also won't be the sliver of the population who have 90 percent of the wealth. There are never any real winners. That is an American myth which has brought us to this point. Why do Americans do what they do when it's not in their own interest? The answer is that they always act out of a false belief that they will somehow "win". In the future, the poor will become poorer and poorer until they simply can't exist any longer without extreme violence. There will be conflict, violence, revolt, civil war beteen the super rich with their police and the poor, anarchy and finally revolution. But, of course, no one can know how long it will be safe here or when change will occur or how slowly or quickly it will come. But sooner or later it will happen. That is known by the super rich who have no loyalty to any country and that is why they keep their assents overseas in a foolish attempt to save their material possessions. I've lived my life and for me it's over. But I wonder, what will the future be like for the young? The future? I don't even like to think about it anymore.

Just another instance of facism. What the internet has revealed to everyone is that the U.S. is just another failed experiment. But anyone who has read history knew that already. So eat, drink and be merry (if your credit card is still functioning), for tomorrow we die. Hail Ceasar, we who are about to die salute you. Lincoln was the Ceasar who crossed the Ribacon when he realized there was no recourse but to declare marial law and occupy the country. Since then the U.S. ceased to be a republic and began it's empire building (if not initially by the Mexican-American War). I know, you are thinking, so what else is new? You are right. See "eat, drink and....", etc.

The arguement that the people in power deserve power and wealth because they are such good decision makers is another of America's stupid, mythological assumptions. Donald Duck can make decisions that ruin the country. But bad decision making is always rewarded with renomination, another obcene pay raise, an undeserved bonus, etc. Why not nominate a urine soaked bum from Skid Row to head up a government agency, a university, a company, the military? A rummy from the gutter couldn't do any worse than what has happened at the fed, the state universities, wall or our battlefields! Anyone listening? Anyone? Any...............one...........
