I'd eliminate the passive aggressive exasperation sigh. It's one of my all time pet peeves. I'd say every time you catch yourself on the inhale for the sigh turn it into a yawn and rewire your brain to feel exhausted by the negative emotion instead of laying it on other people...

As far as a party in SF you have to rent this and drop the extra bucks or charge a few bucks at the door. It's BADASS!

I was a beta tester on this and it worked amazingly well. A bit of battery drain but all in all it uploaded to Flickr flawlessly. I can't wait to get my production unit!

I've written about this very thing extensively in the past and what you want is exactly what a lot of people want, myself included. I'm working on a post about why centralized aggregators as services are bound to eventually fail and collapse. Anyone I've met who has been in this space for more than 2 or 3 years have all had the same idea and we all came to independent conclusions that it's a bad idea. You're creating more walled gardens with the appearance of openness. What needs to happen is social platforms need to create and adopt more open standards for inter garden communication and free the data so you can aggregate onto your blog or whatever service you use the most. If you look at this from a long term perspective sites like FriendFeed are re-publishing content and taking pageviews and thus revenue away from the sites they are getting fed from. While they're small and only being used by early adopters no one is really going to notice (except delicious of course) but once they reach a critical mass they're going to be burdening their providing sites with increased bandwidth and lost revenue enough for them to be cut off from the fire hose. Social aggregator sites like FriendFeed are parasites and will eventually get expunged from the ecosystem. Open protocols and communications for the providers though is a scenario where we all win and everyone provides value and I think we're on our way to getting there.

What Nicholas said. Flexible and fun. I had a 7 year LDR and it finally fizzled out but I have no regrets about it and when it was good it was really good and when it was bad it wasn't really all that bad. We were exclusive for the first year but couldn't afford the trips as much after that and then we mutually started turning the other cheek on exclusivity. We always gravitated to each other though and still saw each other a lot but when the time came to take the big plunge she ended up leaving me. I guess she had gotten used to our "arrangement" and too much of me was gonna cramp her style. So it can work but definitely a sub-optimal way to go for sure for the long haul. But I know you two and non-traditional seems to be in your blood and if anyone can figure out a way to hook it up it'll be you two. Good luck! And I totally hear you on the snuggling on the couch thing. That was always the worst bit. But it made the reunions a lot more fun :-D

Oh, I forgot about another happy ending. My old roommate in SF met a guy in Tahoe that lived in England. They had an LDR for about 2 years and even had to rendezvous in Canada for booty calls after the DHS denied his visa renewal for the US. After the 2 years and lots of red tape they got married and are happily ever-aftering in Sacramento at this very moment. Although as a disclaimer I'm opposed to all forms of nuptials but I'm the guy living alone with no love life at all at 37 so take any advice I give with a giant fucking salt-lick.

This really isn't anything new. I remember piping TV through CU-SeeMe to people who didn't have access to a station way way back in the day. There will always be someone shoving shit they don't own over someone else's pipes. It's generally tolerated until a critical mass is hit or if one even is. If they get enough attention (from posts like this) I'm sure someone will bring the hammer down hard on justin.tv. Can't say I'd shed a tear though. They know they're aiding copyright infringement and don't seem to be doing anything about it.

I wonder how that would work when the phishers get smart enough to change the password of the account they just stole immediately before they start their malicious attacks. I'm of the opinion that giving away wholesale access to your account just isn't the way to go, period. At least separate the login password from the api password so the user has the ability to shut off access to apps gone wild without worrying about not having access to their account anymore.

I'm also noticing much to my dismay that this scanner is so high res that its giving me definition on every single grain in the negs which completely screws with any smooth tonal ranges. I love the film experience of shooting, processing and printing but fuck film. I'm selling this scanner as soon as I'm done with all my old negs.

The biggest problem with the Aerons is the mesh seat and how little fart filtering it provides. When you cut the cheese as you are invariably to do there's no cushion to absorb it and gradually filter it back into the air. The effect is like dutch ovening yourself every time you pass the gas. I call that a major design flaw. Especially if you had Mexican for lunch ;-)

Yeah, once it's online it's usually gonna get ganked at least once if it's good but I can usually get it fixed with a link and credit pretty quickly. This is on a packaged good produced in another country so I'm just screwed. AND they got my money for the damn CD. Maybe I can autograph it and sell it for a profit.
