We have been racist from the start. It will always be with us unless white people accept responsibility for their actions and attitudes.

Re: The Harvard Crimson :: News :: Obama Chides Cambridge Police for Gates' Arrest

Open minded? You have a gun pointed at you in your own home by a police officer who says you don't belong there. Would you have an open mind. If you say yes you are lying.

Re: The Harvard Crimson :: News :: Obama Chides Cambridge Police for Gates' Arrest

Crowley was not there to help anyone. He was there to make an arrest. Very rarely do police care about the truth or facts. They are on a power trip and make their minds up before they know what is going on.

The man was in his own home. He showed ID. Crowley didn't believe a black man could live in a such a nice home.

Crowley was not civil. He did not believe Gates. He kept pushing and pushing until he got the result tha the wanted.

I want to know what respect Crowley showed Gates. Never did he give him the benefit of the doubt. Not once.

Re: The Harvard Crimson :: News :: Police Union Leaders Say Gates Case Should Have Gone to Trial

Anyone notice how no black officers spoke at today's news conference. Also when asked about the "Multi-cultural union" and if they had a rep there, the speaker said no. Interesting...

Re: The Harvard Crimson :: News :: Police Commissioner Defends Officer but Will Assemble Panel to Review Gates' Arrest

Why are you giving this officer the benefit of the doubt? Why not Gates. I thought everyone was innocent until proven guilty? And he has not been proven guilty off doing anythign except being black in racist America.

Re: The Harvard Crimson :: News :: Obama Chides Cambridge Police for Gates' Arrest

This blind allegiance to people in uniform is dangerous. Gates didn't do anything wrong. He was in his own house. In the police report, Crowley says he determined that very early on. That should have been the end of it. By your logic he should have said, "yes master, anything you want master."

Why should police get treated with respect? You don't earn it just by wearing a uniform.

You are talking about the "proper tone." I guess you mean the tone a black man should show a white police officer. You mean one of subservience and obedience right?

Why do you automatically side with the officer and dismiss Gates arguments when everyone shows he was in the right. It was his house which means he did nothing wrong.

Re: The Harvard Crimson :: News :: Police Commissioner Defends Officer but Will Assemble Panel to Review Gates' Arrest

Anyone would be upset of police stormed into your house and demanded you prove that you live there. The outrage is completely justifiable.

He did not break the law. It is not against the law to go onto your own porch. He was yelling at police. That too is not a crime. It's called freedom of speech. Disgusted...you just don't want a black man to be able to say the same things a white man could. You want him, in your own words, to be quiet and do what he's told. A complaint wouldn't have done anything. Police cover for their own. The only way to expose this injustice was to call it out for what it is.

Re: The Harvard Crimson :: News :: Police Commissioner Defends Officer but Will Assemble Panel to Review Gates' Arrest

Crowley quote: "The professor at any time could have resolved the issue by quieting down and/or going back inside his house."

So he wants the uppity black man to shut up and go back where he belongs. But wait, Crowley said he didn't belong there.

Funny how this doesn't fit with Crowley's earlier comments saying he ordered Gates onto the front porch. Seems the liar's true colors... sorry white is the only color for this guy... are coming through.

Re: The Harvard Crimson :: News :: Police Commissioner Defends Officer but Will Assemble Panel to Review Gates' Arrest

It's a free speech issue. There is no crime against cursing at someone. If a cop arrests you and all you've done is call them out, then you can sue the pants off them for violating your civil and constitutional rights. Police only care about themelves. It's a joke to think we should show them any respect. They've done nothing to earn it.

Re: The Harvard Crimson :: News :: Obama Chides Cambridge Police for Gates' Arrest

emmarose is a conservative plant. Gates is a 60 year old man with a cane. Common sense should have told this thug of an officer that he wasn't a burglar.

And why doesn't a homeowner get the benefit of the doubt in his own home. Why does it go to the cop who was the one breaking and entering and going some place he didn't belong?

Re: The Harvard Crimson :: News :: Obama Chides Cambridge Police for Gates' Arrest

FormerlyT is obviously white. You defending an officer breaking into someone's home, holding them at gunpoint, beating them and you attack the homeowner.

They do not have the right to question someone in their own house. There was zero probable cause. A neighbor's report isn't probable cause. They saw a black person in a white neighborhood and that's why they went in. Period.

The black officer was ordered to do so. He wasn't the one who put a gun to Gates head. That was Crowley.

Tell me why should police get the benefit of the doubt over the person in his own home. It was the officer who didn't belong there... not the homeowner.

Re: The Harvard Crimson :: News :: Police Commissioner Defends Officer but Will Assemble Panel to Review Gates' Arrest

If nothing wrong happened, why have a panel review it? Oh yeah, when they're black. They required him to show ID IN HIS OWN HOUSE!

I am a minority so by the real definition, I cannot be a racist. You are for defending a bigoted cop with a history of discrimination.

Re: The Harvard Crimson :: News :: Obama Chides Cambridge Police for Gates' Arrest

I am a minority. If you side with the police here you are a racist. PERIOD. There is no gray area. These cops need to be fired, their bosses fired and black listed so they can never work again. These people must be driven out of society.

Re: The Harvard Crimson :: News :: Harvard Students, Professors Eye Racial Factors in Gates' Arrest

Had he been white, the police would have not responded the way they did. They would have sent one unit, gone up to the door, politely asked what was going on and then left.

Why should we thank police? Really, they don't contribute a damn thing to society. If you support the police here then you are just as racist as them.

Re: The Harvard Crimson :: News :: Harvard Students, Professors Eye Racial Factors in Gates' Arrest

Since when is shouting and screaming at police a crime? It's called free speech and he did it in his own home. He showed police 2 forms of ID and the police ignored it.

Also why don't we have the names of the officers involved. Why aren't their mugshots plastered everywhere. Everyone should know what kind if racists these people are.

The neighbor should be named in any pending lawsuit. Their irresponsible actions caused a man to beaten, dragged out of his own home and thrown into jail like a common criminal.

Re: The Harvard Crimson :: News :: Harvard Students, Professors Eye Racial Factors in Gates' Arrest

I will not show my ID to police when asked. The neighbor didn't want an uppity black in her neighborhood and that's why they called police. The police sent over 6 officers... ALL WHITE INITIALLY... to deal with this uppity black. They physcially assaulted him in his own home even after determining he lived there. What right did they have to even enter the home? They were the ones trespassing, not he.

Why should we give these cops, or anyone in a damn uniform, the benefit of the doubt? They don't do squat to protect anyone.

Re: The Harvard Crimson :: News :: Charges Against Gates To Be Dropped

Way to defend your "brothers" in uniform.
