Hi James - I don't see the pattern you see here. There have been definitely been some 5-4 votes on a some important issues but, just as equally, there have been some unanimous votes. I would reference the council support for the PAC proposal, the council support for the ongoing work on Overlanders bridge, the (I believe) unanimous support for the budget. I don't see evidence of us looking to dig in and be ideological. I just see some difficult issues that have come before us to discuss and decide.

Hi Grouchy1 - I thought I addressed the wage issue in my comments to the Kamloops Daily News for the article. I like using the column to write more about the process side of being on council. I don't think this is fluff, but respect you disagree.

Hi D>Harrison, if you visit my blog, www.yourkamloops.com, you will see a report with lots of info from the conference and how we may be able to put it to good use for Kamloops. I think Kamloops taxpayers may have paid for a very small portion of the few drinks. I mentioned them because I think conference networking / socializing is indeed valuable time for Kamloops taxpayers. If we can save dollars in bylaw dispute costs, for example, I think that would be a great thing.

Hi again Bcgirl22 - I think the proponent understands how the process works. Mining companies work in pretty large financial numbers. I personally feel that the city needs more info before taking any position. Thanks also for your information on Asthma in Kamloops.

Hi Bcgirl22! I keep on coming back to the review process. One really important reason I do that is so that we as a community can get the best sense possible of potential impacts to Aberdeen and all other areas of the city. I don't yet feel I have enough information on this critical topic. We are still early enough in the review process. After the studies done, there will be a 6 month analysis / public comment period, for example.

Hello Dorite, thanks for your comments. I personally feel council is advocating for residents in terms of the review process. One way, for example, was to send in 11 pages of questions based on community concerns to the EAO-CEAA. If you are wanting council to take a defined stance or to consider other questions, I agree that has not happened yet. I would be open to proposing a formal motion to ask the EAO-CEAA to require Ajax to produce a physical 3D scaled model available for public viewing and comment.

Hi Pierre - hope you are well my friend. I respect your position on the mine. I can see it is heartfelt and you are obviously taking the time to inform yourself. Local politicians, those on council anyways, are starting to think, talk, and act on mine related issues. I don't think it's wise for us to take a position pro or con right now. Maybe we shouldn't at all given we want to work productively with the whole community on a host of other issues and plans. But I think we have a responsibility and role to make sure this proposal is studied and analyzed to highest standards. I am pleased the Mayor spoke about the deficiencies in the 3d modeling video presented by KGHM Ajax. This is a good example of what I am talking about.

Ofoab, I find your comment so interesting and though provoking. I think people who are banking on investments for retirement or who want good jobs for their kids might inject some humanity and sensibility into the stock exchange. Politicians are sometimes harder to defend ;)

Hi Rob - I agree that we need to study very carefully and hold the proponent's to a very high standard of information - the highest possible. I am not sure about a disaster fund, but it is something I generally agree is a good idea in these types of proposals. Maybe not to call it that exactly.

Hi Econ - thanks for your comment. As a councillor, I am indeed spending much more time than an evening or two researching the proposal. I could have been more clear that the above quote you reference was meant to refer to busy people who are not paid, as I am, to study community issues. I hear that a lot, "I wish I had more time to learn about issues".

Hi Natali, I'm going to also try a youtube video comment, but just quickly here in case youtube does not take my video comment. I think there are two separate issues. I believe everyone bias will show through, at least some times. It's probably more interesting anyways if bias show through. So, first issue is that consumers of media do have to become better at dicserning and deciding for themselves. The Internet driven fragmentation just really brings that into relief.

Second issue is how journalists craft their stories in this age. One skill is learning to consume this whole firehose of material, and distilling what is important and perhaps popular. To give meaning, its also important to be trusted. Trust is no longer the "from the mountain, heavens(even) but is from connection and a reputation for hard work and speaking your mind.

Just some initial thoughts...
