Three was my lucky number, too. I figured that I already knew how to take care of a baby and already knew how to take care of more than one baby, so that number 3 son had all bases covered. He was ideal: slept, ate, pooped, and repeat.

Alas, the subsequent nine were not that easy. Today, at age 28, number 3 child is still my easiest kid.

I don't get it--you get angry at the Friends Seminary for hosting Gilad Atzmon, but here you advocate for letting anyone and everyone speak at Harvard. Yes I know you were assured equal time at Friends and then had that invite retracted and that you're planning to demonstrate. But originally, you wrote to the principal of the seminary to express your displeasure over hosting this anti-Israel speaker. What happened to your taxi cab approach when you wrote to the principal of the Friends Seminary? Or does the taxi cab philosophy only apply to Harvard??

I agree that there is, to an extent, a great deal of sensationalism employed to garner a base (no pun intended) readership. But there are also serious bloggers such as Gerald Steinberg, David Bedein, and um, yerz trooley.

It does seem to make a difference for some of my children. But I am convinced that a different sort of teacher or educational system would serve them better than the drugs.

But that was not the subject under discussion here. No one said that psychotropic medications are never indicated for any conditions. I was only speaking about the use of such medication for ADD/ADHD. I think that if you had even read the title of my piece you would have known this.

Just to be sure that we're not on the same page, I checked and 0% of people with ADD/ADHD have symptoms of violent ideation. Clearly, meds are indicated for such a condition, but this was not the subject here.

Glad to hear you are feeling so much better. I have no bias against the use of meds. I'm all for them where indicated. I just question the use of meds for ADD/ADHD. At least on a long-term basis.

Ideally, these meds should be described for ADD/ADHD at around the age of 9 and kids should be weaned from them by age 13. By then, they should have learned compensatory behaviors.

In Israel, the schools push parents to use the drugs, all through high school. That has been my experience as a parent of 12 children in the Israeli school system.

Yeah. The SR was better for my son, too, but still no picnic. I don't think the teachers realize how much the kids suffer. They don't realize how bad those sad effects are. Maybe if they were forced to take those meds, they'd finally get it and work at developing better methods so the meds aren't needed.
