What's not impressive is their positioning: instead of pitching this to merchants and consumers as a way of capitalizing on discounts, special offers and exclusive deals via their mobile devices, it's about "doing away with pesky cards." That cannot be the goal, right?

Re: Stupid Research Watch: Spam Has a Carbon Footprint? One presumes this was the best they felt they could do to hook onto public awareness around Earth Day. Sad. What's worse is that a lot of money must have gone into this -- staff writers, reviewers, print house workers (you know this will be printed!) and others.

It doesn't help that I am reading 1984 at the moment and this sounds oh too much like something that the Ministry of Truth...

Re: Bribed Bloggers Have no Credibility

Don The Idea Guy, are you so naive as to believe that any savvy advertiser would pay someone to write even a potentially negative review of their product or service?

Marketing departments spend astronomical amounts annually globally to influence consumers, politicians, inspectors, and the press. While advertsers are willing to take some risks, they seed money to the still-developing blogosphere precisely because they expect what they have learned from a milinneum's experience: no dog would bite the hand that's feeding it. That bloggers are hit by gold-rush fever ("there's money on the 'net!) only makes the unlikelihood of an impartial space clearer.

Bloggers are mere mortals, writers on boss' interests like the journalists working for the traditional press. While I would hope that all writers would be so noble as to preface all of their reviews with "PAID FOR BY A SMART ADVERTISER," that's LaLaLand, dear.

My thanks to Ken Magill for again raising this for discussion.

Re: WordPress plugins I’m using (cont’d)

Thank you for this article. The tip on MobilePress alone was worth it, as I am an iPhone user and was wondering how I was going to "fix" the site. Awesome.

Re: Dear Friend: Lurid Tales From Junk Mail America

A very engaging history...or a well-written story. When reading about a fake, can one trust the author? ;-) Keep up the good work.
