Sounds like my life and I LOVE it. Except, of course, for the moments that occur around 6 in the evening when both kids need to be bathed, I still have 3 articles to write, I forgot to thaw the meat that goes in our dinner, and my husband calls to say he has to work a little late... Ooooh yeah, we have our moments.
I have a 2 1/2 yr old and a 1 yr old and #3 due in April. I get about 20 - 25 hours of work in per week, if I'm lucky. Organization is BIG. I'm still figuring out lots of 'tricks' that work. I will definitely be trying the 15 minute idea. :)

Re: How to Eat Out on a Budget

Great tips. I love eating out, but I get kind of snobby about it --- not that I don't love the hamburger/pizza options (i do!!), but I really don't like the middle-of-the-road franchises (chili's, applebee's, tgif, etc.) and I love going to the better, local restaurants. That means more money when we do eat out, or it's always pizza/hamburgers... I think I"ll look into that entertainment book this year, because we've got some great restaurants here in St.L that I can't wait to get to.... multiple times!

Re: You Smell Good: Is sniffing an act of adultery?

Mmmmm. Wow. Fun article and fun comments. I met my husband when we were both 14. His parents own a lawnmower shop. He also smelled like gasoline and exhaust. I loved it.
He still works in a shop, and he still walks in the door smelling like gasoline and I still love it. Only now it's okay to jump on him... :)
(His after-shower and/or day-off smell is gasoline-free; it's like fresh-cut wood and your favorite soft blanket. Mmmmmmm. I wish he would get home already...)

Re: What advice would you give to yourself 10 years ago?

(I was 18, just starting college). Spend more time with your Mom. (She died of breast cancer last year). Get into a sport or something that stretches your comfort zone. Make friends with all kinds of people. Burst your bubbles and make your life bigger. Write, write, write. It's in you. Don't worry about fitting in; you'll figure out soon enough that's a myth! Just enjoy life, be crazy like you really are, and you'll find the people you need to find.
Oh, and yeah, don't waste your time on those guys you meet in college. You already know who the love of your life is, so just give him a little time. He'll be there at the right time. (He was. We met when we were 14. Crush at first sight and it lasted!)

Re: Finding the True Meaning of Holiday Traditions

Julie - What a great tradition. That's really the point, yeah? Time together, however it happens. I realize now (not having my Mom) that the TIME and the fellowship was what I loved. Tree be hanged! :)
Although, Rick, I love your ideas for creative trees! After I put up our ultra-traditional version this year, I keep eyeballing it and realizing it just isn't me. I'm not ultra-traditional about anything anymore (hippie husband has gotten to me), and what I really want to recreate is just togetherness and fun and enjoying the season. So next year we'll probably re-interpret "Christmas tree" to something that fits our family now.

Re: Five Simple Steps to Give Holiday Gifts That Mean Something

Thanks!
Barbara, I've sat and thought and scratched my head for people over ideas until I just stop thinking "gifts" and start thinking about the PERSON! Simple, but it takes effort to refocus on the person the gift is for... once I do, though, I always come up with something that fits.
Traci, thanks. I'm glad you enjoyed the article. And you can definitely have my white chocolate (if there's any left after my husband gets to it...). :)

Re: July Book Blowout | Blue Archipelago

Great idea! I keep adding books to my stack and I'm not getting through them.
