Let's just say it like this: There is no trade scenario that makes sense for both parties. The Bears are 2-0 and in a position to realistically compete for a playoff berth. Teams that aren't (e.g., Jets, et al.) aren't going to part with significant draft capital for a WR1 that they need to turn around and extend, in large part because the 2021 draft class of receivers is projected to be pretty stacked. No trade scenario makes sense in 2020.

If the implication is that the Bears should trade ARob, let's pump the breaks on that. I know it hasn't been pretty, but 2-0 is 2-0. Since 1990, 61 percent of teams that started 2-0 went on to the playoffs, per Brad Biggs at the Tribune. And there's an extra wild-card spot in the playoffs this year for each conference.

I don't see how the team gets better this year by dealing its WR1, whether for draft capital or a player or players in other positions. The team is well on its way to seriously competing for a playoff spot. From there, anything can happen.

Exactly this. I'll watch every second of all 16 goddamn games this year, like I do every year, and what will make Pace and everyone else look bad is another underwhelming record. I'm not going to become a Pace stan just because he throws money at one of his own starters, although I certainly think Robinson deserves a raise and/or job security.

1) Comp picks are great to have. Let's not shit on them.

2) The team can use the franchise tag on Robinson next year if they want to. Pace has leverage beyond Week 1, Week 8, or Week 16.

Maybe let's all agree that all of these picks were very bad and leave it at that. I get that last-place aversion is a thing, but even if you can convince me that the Niners' pick was worse than the Bears', it doesn't make the Bears any better right now.

Quick point: Amos, by finding more money elsewhere in free agency, created the 4th round compensatory pick which the Bears dealt to acquire Nick Foles, so that 2015 draft produced the likely QB1 in 2020. So two picks from that draft panned out, including one used to obtain the likely starter at the most important position in professional sports. I'd call that a good draft.

I agree with this article. With several obvious exceptions, this is the direction the entire league is going: towards do-everything-alright backup running backs on rookie deals who can step up and spell RB1s for a few quarters or a couple of games if need be. Nall is fine but he lacks speed. I wish the Bears would have rostered Kerrith Whyte last year to back up Montgomery but no need to litigate that decision now.

That's my thinking as well. It's possible Barone was just speaking imprecisely. "We'll obviously have a plan for him if he makes the roster, because we're a professional football organization and we have a plan for every player who's rostered."

If the thesis of this article is that Pace should monitor a player who might be available and to assess what a deal that makes the team better would cost, then I imagine he spends most of his days doing exactly that.

Not sure why anyone thinks the ILB position isn’t adequately deep. Iggy was a fourth-round pick and at some point he should have a chance to show he can contribute on defense. Josh Woods looks to be an exciting, modern ILB with range and a high motor. The starting tandem is one of the better ones in the entire NFL. It's going to be hard to entice a starting-caliber ILB to come in as a backup.

I think the running back and free safety, behind Jackson, positions are more concerning, as far as depth goes. And I think the QB position should have more depth as well. Foles has an injury history, and I am not comfortable with Tyler Bray being the QB2 if Foles goes down with something serious. I get that there’s not a better practice-squad QB option now, but if we’re talking about the positions that lack depth, I think we have to put the QB position in there as well.

Bingo. I don’t care which quarterbacks are top five in Fantasy Football. I am happy to roll with our solid and dependable QB1, Nick Foles, who can read defenses, remain aware under pressure, and throw the ball when and where he’s supposed to within the scope of the Bears’ offensive scheme.

The offensive line's success is going to be predicating on the QB1's success, not the other way around. I'm enthusiastic about Foles' ability to read defenses, go through progressions, and throw the ball when and where he's supposed to, and I hope he avoids a serious injury. So I'd rather roll with the line that we have.

I'd love to see the team sign another quality inside linebacker and bring in someone new with speed to the RB position.

I don't agree with this at all. The pick makes sense in that the QB1 position is the most important role in pro sports, and by drafting Love, the Packers are taking it seriously. Green Bay has a real plan for the quarterback position beyond this year and the Bears don't, and I write this as a life-long Bears fan.

I agree. I don't see how trading Cohen, who is marginally productive but probably more importantly requires defenses to game-plan around, for a sixth-round pick makes the Bears better this coming season. If they let him walk in free agency, it factors into the comp pick formula. They can get an extra sixth by trading down in the second round.
