The general point, however, is that Lackey's not better to the point that it justifies spending possibly $40 million more on while the Mets probably need more than one pitcher, in addition to having other holes elsewhere.

Re: Pinching Pennies: First Base

I agree that Davis is perhaps another reason that they shouldn't pour serious cash into a flawed free agent 1B, however the guy has only had two minor league seasons, and 650 or so minor league at bats. Let's not forget, his first of those two seasons was dreadful. Sure, he is on the fast track because he was a top pick and came out of college, but counting on him for next year would be a bit hasty.

Re: Mets Bloggers Hate Veterans

Well, the jokiness apparently wasn't obvious and that's where my fault lies and for what I apologize. My seeming lack of clarity has seemingly upset some people, and ticking people off was never my goal.

Re: A Letter to D-Wright

Like I said in the first real sentence, he is by no means having a bad year - in fact he is doing quite well in some respects. None of this however, explains why he is so passive at the plate and has taken so many called strikeouts. It's one thing if he is swinging and missing, but nothing is more frustrating than when he goes down without at least trying to hit the ball. When he is the only really good hitter in the lineup, he shouldn't be trying to grind out walks, he should be trying to drive in runs. Nothing is wrong with a walk, but there is something wrong when drawing a walk appears to be his main goal.

Re: Put Redding in the Pen

Eh, Niese is intriguing because he's younger, but the guy should find success in AAA before we trust him in the majors.

Re: Time To Try Sheffield At First Base

Rick, agreed 100%. Said this in a post at the beginning of the year, except it was suggesting Sheffield should spell Delgado at first.

Re: Sing-a-Long to These!

I too think 'Shout' would be good - it meets all the criteria of being extremely exciting, easy to sing to - not to mention it being in an excellent comedy (Animal House).

Re: Meet The Moron: NY Post’s Larry Brooks

Are the two mutually exclusive?

Re: Carping on Carp

Eh, I'm not really sold on Bannister - he's pitched almost exclusively against poor hitting teams this season and a guy who pitches to contact can get by against teams like those while not so much against the better hitting teams.
