Again Amazon is trying to run itself as a startup, which is why they have so many new projects. But unfortunately, most of those projects will be flops like Fire Phone, which is an unfortunate side effect of doing a startup.

Re: Rant of The Week

Ha, now we are getting into business models. On Xiaomi, I think they are more likely to expand first to Southeast Asia and South Asia regions than US. The US market is simply too complicated, or "saturated" for many great Chinese companies, including Baidu.

Re: Video Of The Week: Surviving Startup Life

Jerry is the best!

Re: Zero to One

I don't think the book is meant to teach you how to build and scale startups step by step. If you need to learn that, you ought to go read Paul Graham's essays. One of the things I love about this book is its contrarian thinking.

Re: A Few Thoughts on On-Demand Car Sharing & Where It’s Going

+1

Re: Jerry Colonna On Being Fierce

Jerry, great stuff as usual! I got the original inspiration from reading Seth Godin's book Tribes. It has been a nice run for the last three years. Still learning new stuff everyday from our community members. I suggest every business person give it a try running a Meetup group, whatever your industry is. It teaches you a lot about customer service.

Never spent a dollar buying Facebook or Google ads. Yep! What I was telling you was all true. The key of running an online community are three words: COMMUNITY, COMMUNITY, COMMUNITY! If you get that right, people will acknowledge you. Perhaps I was also lucky, because 1). my group is based in New York (where Meetup HQ is based in case you don't know) 2). I have an amazing team. Don't think I'll ever give up running NYEBN no matter what my next venture is.

Re: Fun Friday: NBA Basketball

Knicks fan.
