Why? FB kept moving the goalposts; they kept (and will keep) redefining what "privacy" means, as today's announcement demonstrates.

Is G+ lacking fine control over privacy, too? Sure; but G+ is only a few weeks old. More importantly, Google hasn't (yet) done anything to erode my confidence - I'm pretty sure that Google will give me more fine-grained control over what points of my social graph get shared, but more importantly, I'm confident that Google's default setting will be a clearly articulated "opt in" rather that a deeply buried "opt out".

Re: The unearned follow

Isn't this essence of influence? At a cost of around $15/£12, they're certainly worth a look.

(btw, I don't work for Acoustibud, or have any affiliation to them; I'm just a happy customer!)

Re: The Touch-Friendly Web Keeps on Growing

Cam someone help me understand what differentiates a "touch-enabled" website from a "normal" website? I've purchased many a book from Audible based on reviews from Leo Laporte's TWiT podcasts; I've bought gadgets after waiting to see how Engadget compare Gadget A to Gadget B., etc.

It comes down to trust; I've chosen to follow the people I follow on Twitter because they add value to my news and information stream, and I trust them not to start spamming. I they do, then I can choose to unfollow, but if they promote a product they like and that I'm looking for at the point in time, then I'm more than happy to follow their affiliate link.

Re: Could You Help Me With a Project

Great poem, and nicely read, too!

Re: Courier: Microsoft’s Prototype Multi-Touch Tablet (better than Apple?)

Another nice concept from Microsoft, but I'm reminded of the Origami concept videos when I watch this.

In other words, there are some great ideas shown here, but I'd put money on this UI never seeing the light of day...

Re: Foursquare: will it be bigger than Twitter?

At this point, I'd have to say no. Foursquare's biggest problem is that it is *too* location centric. It can't be used by people outside the US (and if I understand correctly, it still can't be used in all US cities?). Sure, they'll open it up eventually, but by then it will be too late. Far fewer people will care.

Right from the off, Twitter allowed anyone to use their service, irrespective of their location - remember how mesmerised we were by Twittervision? Watching those realtime updates come in from all over the world woke people up to the impact that Twitter was about to have.

By limiting who can use their service, Foursquare has damaged their potential to make a huge splash. I'd predict that in 12 months, if Foursquare is still around, it will only be used by a small but hard core number of fans.

Re: Seth Rogen, Jonah Hill & James Taylor Rip Facebook Hard In Funny People

So, I wonder who *would* win the fight if Craig and Tom duked it out...?

Re: Oh Scoble, you are so damn predictable

Steven, when you say there others out there, do you mean *people* to engage in good conversation, or platforms other than Friendfeed?

I think I've got a good handle on the people element, but would be interested to hear your thoughts on the platform aspect (if that's what you meant).

Re: Google Wave Drips With Ambition.
