We love your coverage and reporting of the news in Johnson County. Good journalism can't be beat! We remember when you were simply the Prairie Village Post. I'm glad this got pushed back to the planning commission (and was pleased with Ward 6's Terrence Gallagher's motion to have the commission make a recommendation). I find it hard to believe the RB1 lots will cause the same controversy as the larger RA1s did, but time will tell. I hope the entire city council will become better versed about the RB1 lots as more than one had trouble distinguishing them from other lot sizes on Monday night.

Re: Some JoCo cities report prolonged, persistent power outages

Power outages in my PV neighborhood have seen a significant rise over the past 6 - 8 years. We average an outage once a quarter. It's astonishing that Evergy has so little concern for this situation. The last time I lost power we were having a gentle rainstorm, no wind, no lightning. My internet provider notified me of the outage. Evergy never reached out (I'm on its text database). I guess when you're the only game in town you can be dismissive of your customer base. A shame, really.

Re: Prairie Village petitions clear county hurdle — What’s next?

I was thinking about the clarity provided the citizens of Prairie Village from the city clerk's office regarding this next phase of the petitions. Private education (religious, home, and otherwise) is not held to the same standard as public schools. It indeed opens a pit of "in it for the money" vs. best for our children organizations. These private institutions will take the money, have zero accountability, and have the ability pick & choose which child gets accepted into their programs. Did anyone think about our rural neighbors where there are few if any private options? An unfortunate state of affairs, Kansas.

Re: Capitol Update: Sen. It's a total waste of taxpayer dollars to fund private (including religious and home schools) education. These institutions can pick and choose which children get to attend their schools (it's not everybody, like our public school system). These private institutions educate without oversight and are also exceptionally unavailable to our neighbors in rural Kansas. What a sham. Please email your state representative and ask them to vote NO on SB83. I'm surprised a FAQ isn't "how long will the city continue to live with this sad state of affairs?" I assume that's up to the city's residents. They'd have to agree to foot the bill for the land and determine a use other than mixed small retail, entertainment and apartments. A very unfortunate situation.

Re: Johnson County Commissioner Charlotte O’Hara sues Blue Valley Schools following mask hearing

How unfortunate our Republican majority state legislature opted to cut the wings of our state's governor and go against science as it relates to COVID 19. I fear we'll hear only more and more of this kind of banter from those who disagree with the public health crisis/pandemic. This is frustrating on so many levels. It adds costs/expenses to our school systems, time and resources spent toward litigation, and re-organizing how we meet publicly. Blue Valley's option to reschedule the meeting and meet remotely was smart.

Re: ‘A scary time for Asian-Americans right now’: Rep. I've been worried about this for the past two months. I realize equity issues made even a Pass/Fail option for fourth quarter classes a deal breaker, but there's no motivation for the kids to do the work. While I feel for the educators and Fall's catch up, it's my opinion this rift in school work won't impact my kid five, ten years from now. An act of God has impacted us in ways we'd never imagined. What must we do about it? Manage the best we can, be kind, and keep putting one foot in front of another.

Re: What It’s Like Now: Marie Stansfield, cardiovascular nurse and ICU staff on the COVID-19 floor at St. Luke’s

Great read, thanks for sharing!

Re: A strong critic of stay-at-home order, County Commission Vice Chair Mike Brown encourages followers to ‘exercise your rights’ with court hearings

You know, if Mike Brown wants to voice his challenge to this order, and tout legality of it, that's fine. Some kids have to cross Belinder from west to east when the sidewalk stops. All kids crossing 75 Street on Belinder must start on the east side and cross back over to the west side to get to the school. This pattern repeats itself, in the reverse, after school.

It’s unfortunate past city planning is to blame for this annoyance, but could we put our heads together and come up with a plan that doesn’t disrupt trees, easements, property, and significantly increase costs? For example, a crosswalk with a flashing light (similar to the one on Booth/Cambridge by Weltner Park) for people to cross over Belinder west to east to get to a sidewalk. Perhaps the intersection of 75 & Belinder gets freshly painted crossing stripes, clearer signage, etc.?

I feel for the homeowners. The sidewalk becomes their responsibility to clear of snow & ice. The removal of beloved trees is wrenching. We must also find ways for our pedestrians to get around easily, particularly children on their way to & from school. I believe PV can figure this out. I only hope it’s well thought out.

Re: Overland Park council denies resident request to keep backyard chickens

Disappointed in the council's decision.
