Smithwicks is pronounced "Smiddicks"! Hearing "Smith-wicks" makes my liver cringe in embarrassment.

Re: Facebook inbox tweaks coming in May

So does this mean that rather than getting annoying wall posts about Farmville or the "About You" quizzes, we'll be getting them in our inboxes instead?

Re: Showing Skin: When Is It Too Much?

She worked at a hospital! Once, when I met up with a close girlfriend of mine after work, I noticed she was wearing a tank, short shorts (shorter than mid-thigh!) and wedges. When I asked, "You wore THAT to work?!" she didn't quite seem to get it since she just responded, "...Yeah...?" like it was no big deal!

Re: She Said: New Year’s Dating Resolutions!

#8 - Definitely. There's a difference between a guy who lives with his mother and a guy who lives with his MOMMY. There are a number of reasons a guy might live with his mother (or another elder relative) but if the main one is that he just can't let go, there's a problem! Dealbreaker!

And for #1 - Hey, cheap takeout is fine with me, but for a FIRST date? No way!!

Re: It’s January 6. Yesterday I started the Fruit Flush Diet. It's a 3-day diet consisting of protein drinks, lots of fruit, lots of veggies and lean protein like chicken breast.

I know what you're thinking, "You won't lose any weight!" "The best thing to do is to just eat better and exercise!"

But I figure with this sort-of detox, I'll reset my appetite and be more motivated (at least mentally) to live better. I'm already craving my next serving of fruit - and usually I'd be reaching for a bag of chips!

Re: 5 Not-So-Serious Things to Be Grateful For

OMG yes!! I got most of mine done in one evening, a glass of red wine in one hand, and the other free to click away. :)

...Which brings me to something else I'm thankful for: wine. I love sharing a bottle with friends over dinner or a big plate of crackers and cheese.

Re: ‘Bah Humbug’ Alert: Holiday News You May or May Not Want to Avoid

Thanks, Erica, I agree! That's brilliant! It never occurred to me that those would make great gifts, let alone to just buy one for myself.

Thanks for the advice, Laurie! Do you happen to know if basil or rosemary plants are easy to maintain? I think I may just get one for my dad. He's not much of a cook but he likes to believe he has a green thumb. :)

Re: Dr. Oz’s Health Tips: Weight Loss, Budget-Friendly Foods and Other Advice for a New You

Thank YOU, Laurie! I like the whole working-out-for-10-minutes thing. I often feel like there's much emphasis placed on working out an hour a day, at least 5 days a week. Who has time for that?! It's nice to know that every little bit of exercise helps.

Re: Lifescript’s Fitness Gift Recommendations (Under $25!)

I love my Gaiam yoga mat! I'm just careful not to mix too much, though!

And vodka is my poison of choice! My faves are with cranberry juice, and with tonic water/lime juice. For a fun (but sugary) party drink, try mixing 2 parts lemonade and 1 part Hawaiian Punch to a shot of vodka for a fun, candy-tasting cocktail!

Re: Holiday Fashion Faux Pas: Which Seasonal Styles Look Good or Bad?

That's hilarious, Laura! My time probably would have been better spent hiking.

You know the funny thing about flip-flops? In college they're a basic necessity. But post-college, they're a luxury!

Re: Holiday Shopping: And How Was Your Black Friday?

I'm not gonna lie, Nicole...

Those Bumpits are the best! They were more useful to me when my hair was long but they really did give the added height I wanted! I liked them best on bad hair days - I'd tuck a medium-sized Bumpit under a chunk of hair and pull my hair into a mid-height pony - it was easy!

The only downside is that it makes driving uncomfortable. You can't lean your head back without feeling the lump of plastic and when you do lean back, you're paranoid you'll break it.

And just so you know they weren't on sale at Bed Bath & Beyond. :)

Re: 5 Aggravating Fall Fashion Trends

I totally wear #1 and #2! I like wearing long sweaters with leggings and boots - it's an easy chic style that instantly adds height. As for the "tissue" tees, I have a couple of 'em and several tank tops to wear underneath. They're easy to mix 'n' match; plus, it looks like I have tons more clothes than I actually do.

Personally, I'm not really into those gladiator-looking sandals. They look complicated and pretty uncomfortable since the soles are so flat.

Re: How Soon Is Too Soon to be Married?

While I agree with both of you, I was intrigued by what my mom's friend once said. He's a middle-aged bachelor who was explaining the advantages of marrying young: When you're young you grow up together; you can mold each other. He lamented that because he had never married, he's now set in his ways and has a hard time maintaining a relationship.

Of course, that's one man's opinion, but I thought it was an interesting point.

Re: How Soon Is Too Soon to be Married?

Everyone is different; you can't put a timeframe on love, yada yada yada. But I still think they married too early. They haven't even had their first scandal yet!

My parents met/married within a year - still too early for me! I've been with my boyfriend for about 6 years and though we're both very happy, I STILL don't see us getting married anytime soon!

Re: Movies to Cry By

"The Notebook" always makes me cry too!

Another movie that really moved me - and surprised me - was the Spanish flick "El Orfanato." I was told it was one of the scariest movies in a long time, and it was. But it was also very touching and deep.
